Why were the recent dl ol and te transfers to much stronger than guys that were here?

. The LG 77 is a beast as is the DT 99. Also the TE was a block finishing machine. Only comparable is freshman Harrison Moore

Rutledge was a 3 star recruit. This is why I keep repeating that spending big NIL money on highly ranked high school OL recruits isn't necessary. Between mining the Portal, and trusting your own scouting and development, there's more than enough OLs out there to build a darn good OL group without having to gamble on one of the most difficult position groups to project on this level.

Here's something interesting. Our OL depth chart this year (according to 247 composite rankings):

OT (L):
Corey Robinson - 3 star (83 composite)

Jordan Brown - Not ranked
Ethan Mackenny - 3 star (86 composite)

OG (L):
Joe Fusile - Walk On - Not ranked

Harrison Moore - 3 star (85 composite)

Center:
Weston Franklin - 3 star (88 composite)

Tana Alo Tupuola - 3 star (85 composite)

OG (R):
Keylan Rutledge - 3 Star (83 composite)

Brandon Best - 3 Star (85 composite)

OT (R):
Jordan Williams - 3 Star (87 composite)

Benjamin Galloway - 3 Star (86 Composite)

Not one 4 star recruit among our OL...which was ranked one of the better OLs in the preseason and may be one of top 15-25 OL groups in the country.

On the flip side, good as the OL did, we might have a win or two more if we had the kinda 5* OL that could’ve bowled over UGA for a fourth down conversion or 2pt tries…

Key has told us exactly what he wants the line to be able to do, and is aware it’s not there quite yet.

or we might wish that our OC and play caller might have recognized that our 2024 OL could not blow 2024 UGa DL off the ball … so perhaps this million dollar genius might have called a play that did not require us to win all five OL\DL battles …. in other words run a play where our best OL is one-on-one w UGa defender….winner take all … instead of slow developing up the middle where we got to win all 5 battles ….

Unless it’s an iso, running up the middle on the GL from the shotgun is a waste.

I wish for sure we’d called some other plays there.

I’m also excited about the future of the OL with the recruiting Key’s been doing. Think we’re gonna go from very good to amazing.

No doubt, it’s hard to predict and project high school OL into college, but if there are any position groups I am willing to risk that variance, it’s on the lines. In fact, that difficulty is the exact reason why it’s important to bring in so many highly recruited linemen so that missing in a few doesn’t hurt you too bad. Yes, you can absolutely find 3* OL who will be really good, but I wouldn’t count on that strategy moving forward—there are tons of 3* who never even see the field. If we want to get to the next level, we need to hit on next-level OL and DL and I love that this is how Key is approaching recruiting and the transfer portal.
