My point is not that it would not be ruled correctly, but that CBK challenged that ruling and forced anyone watching to view it over and over at the time. You never know what may have come from the replay official knowing all eyes were upon him.
SABAN AT ALABAMA used leadership principles that emphasized stoism combined with a talent advantage to achieve to long term dynasty. Maybe Key is adding far eastern zin to be at peace in game situations.

I prefer him running up to refs appealing for benefit of his players.

THIS IN SPADES!
And didn’t review it for all the viewers to see which is normal practice. Never announced it was reviewed for targeting or tipped ball per normal procedure. This game was absolutely rigged by the $EC/ABC.
And THIS is what I find so disturbing. Why were the “reviews” a deep dark secret from everyone except coach Key? No mention to the fans in the stands, no mention to the announcers, or to the viewers at home. One announcer did say immediately after the interference call that a tipped ball would immediately nullify the pass interference but he suddenly went silent and never mentioned it again.

Again, for those who might mistake me for a conspiracy theorist, I am not, and have explained in another post what I think happened in this game to “throw” the outcome to uga. But when you are used to watching games in which multiple plays are reviewed ad nauseum, even when it was clear in real time that the correct call had been made, it was beyond weird to leave two critical and controversial calls just out there hanging. With no explanation. Just silence. Except for, we now hear, it was secretly, discreetly, communicated to a coach who had to make an instant decision about whether to challenge a call with the deck stacked against him.

And, I’ll say it again, I’m used to having questionable calls go against Tech in Athens. But when a bogus pass interference call in Athens went against a George O’Leary team I don’t recall people question his coaching ability, saying Tech chocked, or suggesting that Tech had lots of opportunities to win the game. If people will just stop with that crap it will be a lot easier to move on from another typical screw job by the Athens mafia.

You think ABC would’ve shown it?
They would’ve gone to commercial and told us the replay was inconclusive and showed us the same angle we all saw before.

For what it’s worth, I think it was targeting…. but if there was no better angle, it would not be called. He clearly drops his head, leads with the crown and launches. However, he was coming from the side and the crown may have been on the ball. No way to conclusively tell from what we saw. The fact that NO OTHER angle has been shown means either they don’t have it or they don’t want to have it. In either case, we weren’t getting the call. That’s BS. CLEARLY
Except King’s head snaps back sharply after the hit. I was concerned he might be concussed. If the mutt hits the ball, it doesn’t do that. If he hits him in the rib cage his head goes forward, not backward.

Look the NFL rules analyst, Terry McAuley, said it was clearly a target. Personally, I fail to see how anyone could see otherwise.

Keys pause in the 680 interview and how he answered is all we need to hear. He knows and sent a subtle message that it was a sec job
There is what you WANT to say and what you CAN say… and the pause was very telling.

Now… by “what you CAN say,” I DO NOT mean to insinuate that CBK is toeing a line for anyone. What I mean is that everyone who has played or coached anything knows that you have to control what you can control, and focus on doing your job to the best of your ability. Key can’t complain about things outside of our control without inviting questions from the team as well.
Honestly, I think this is a lot of what happened to FSU. They had major items that were obviously outside of their control, but their entire program got invested in playoff snubs, conference affiliation lawsuits and revenues / payouts. They focused on everything other than doing their jobs and therein lies the results.
I’m good with the way Key and our team seem to be handling it. We have the luxury as fans to debate and dwell on it, but the arguement others have made that “Key didn’t say it, so it didn’t happen” is just silly. He won’t say it… and I’m glad.

I don’t see that but the head is irrelevant. Forceable contact with the crown is the rule… doesn’t matter if contact is to head, back, chest, etc.
If it had snapped back, that would’ve been a clearer indicator.
I don’t think we were going to get that call, even if it had been called on the field. I’d love to see another angle, but there is a reason why we didn’t…
A. No better angle / inconclusive
B. “They” didn’t want us to see another angle

I think Key is/was aware of what creating a stink over this would do. Everyone who is at least partially football savvy sees these calls and non-calls and knows GT got jobbed. Key carrying on after the fact would do no good in the long run.
I think this is 💯% true. JawJa has had a long line of coaches going back to Dooley who whined and complained about calls not going their way, though I don’t remember Mark Richt doing it. I’ve always been proud that Tech coaches, and the Institute, don’t constantly play the victim when things go against them, like some programs.

Yes, in replay his head snaps back, and, if you slow it down, the tackler continues to rake the top of his helmet up into King’s chin. It was a brutal hit which would have instantly caused a momentary shock and weakness in the body and made the arms go limp. Holding onto a ball is impossible after that kind of chest/chin shot. The fact that King even got up demonstrated how tough he is.

Yes, the head snaps back. That’s the evidence the crown of his helmet hits high.

How can you not see that, and how can you say head involvement is inconsequential to targeting?

This 100%!!!

Key's message to the team since he has been here is "we focus on us and what we can control". If he whines about the refs publicly then that message loses all weight in that locker room. Also, since he has embodied that message so do his players. It makes me so angry when the butt-licker fans only argument against the targeting no call is "Well King said his helmet hit the ball and caused the fumble so that means it wasn't targeting". First off I don't doubt the helmet hit the ball but it would have been AFTER it hit King's chin. Second, King, like Key, understands there is no point in arguing after the game as it won't change the result. King is saying the only thing he could control was holding onto the football and he didn't (to be clear I don't blame him).

That being said I am certain that Tech will be sending a novel of missed calls to the officiating office as they often do after poorly called games.

After re-watching the game with Miami, where targeting has become an art form, some players are definitely learning to target and make it less obvious. The full blown launch is more subtle, and leading with the crown of the helmet has shifted to the front of the helmet. The impact to the player taking the hit, however, is about the same.

It is inconsequential regarding the player being tackled.
Targeting is forceable contact with the crown of the helmet (by the tackler)and it doesn’t matter where you hit the ball carrier. It doesn’t have to be helmet to helmet. I’m saying it is still targeting even if he hit King in the chest
I agree there is still contact to the facemask but I don’t see a head snap as if it was all helmet to helmet… but its targeting regardless

You don't see Kings helmet immediately pop backwards/rotate? It's pretty clear

I didn't read through this entire thread, but I do think Key should have challenged the tipped ball.

I have a question. It may have been answered already. How did Key not know the new OT rules when they scored the TD in the 2nd OT? If you remember, he was holding up one finger for the extra point, but of course, everyone who is into CF knows they now have to go for 2?

Three things:
1. It’s not all helmet to helmet, it helmet to bottom of face mask, snapping his head backward.
2. Yes, leading with crown is targeting regardless of what you hit.
3. There is a second definition of targeting that mentions head area contact, but it’s either/or, doesn’t have to be both. The hit in King satisfied both.

Tessitore absolutely didn't see a tip. He was too busy reading his UGA will be in the playoff script for the 1000x time. What an awful broadcast.
If you played a drinking game where you chugged every time Tessitore said COFH, you would have been really drunk. My wife commented about it - why does he have to refer to that phrase every time they come back from a commercial? Anyway, I do like his voice, but his SEC leanings can be painful at times.

It was an SECheat broadcast, “The SECheat on ABC.” You have to expect that stuff, but their homerism was nauseating.

So after listening to this interview we have some insight on why we didn’t try a QB sneak from under center on the short yardage OT possesion- HK’s injury made it hard for him to grasp the ball when snapped from under center- he almost fumbled it during an earlier under center exchange

Or that uga seniors had a 30 game home winning streak, or that if they win this game they are IN the playoff’s, actually you would likely be dead if you took a shot for every one of those…
