Wait, why have I never known about the 3rd verse of the anthem? It's a wonder we haven't discontinued using that song.

There was a movement several decades ago to change the anthem by replacing the current one with America the Beautiful. The argument was that it was a broader song in terms of imagery, it was far more singable and it better embodied American values. Movement never got much support due to those who just felt like the current one was more "traditional."

My experience is that most people do not sing the current one. Whether they would sing America the Beautiful more readily is unknown.
