Recruiting 1. Make clear announcement of recruit to a specific state. or region with stated goal of only recruiting difference makers. Sets a positive tone and realistic goal of 1 or 2 per year. 2. I prefer Texas for out of state = good schools around houston and dallas have talent and these cities have huge alumni base. Would also cover deep east tex/ west la which have no d1 colleges nearby. 3. Alumni gtaa coordinate with gt alumni in area to dress in jacket gear and attend certain game for a key prospect's.Perhaps hang gt blankets on fence. Kids are influenced by the little things. They all like the fact that 1 in 6 gt grads are millionaires. Which alumni group had the biggest turnout, .Gtaa Put pics on social media , etc. 4. In any new target area put on a gt spread option clinic = best way to gain trustv of the key recruiting influence which below mom is the high school coach. All recruiter are rightly suspected of gross exaggeration ( lying). Come in with a splash after diing some griund work. 5'We should limit the shot gun approach (letters of interest) to go more to a ladder approach or method. ( in past my coaching son in texas had greaGTpdmt 5-10 180# fast running back that was sharp - hs ran option , we introduced to recruiter but a letter to him only contact. He had these from every school in big 12. No phone call from tech, Kid went to Purdue but was not an iback , after 2 years returned to small school in texas did ok _ we had no shot w out phone call). No letter without a call to coach! 6. Sell the player development program as we are doing great (at this time). Get a great pr package together to show how kid will be monitored AND helped, as a student ( whole person concept started at gt.). Emphasize that athletes are a part of campus and will be around very smart kids and could make friends for life. 7. TOOT YOUR HORN Class Act = don't weed out like big schools who recruit 25+ a year, Publisize special stories Ratliffe story to be told. Jabari story (made me more loyal to coach = after jabari earned his way back to see coach walk with him ad they lead team walk up, mom gives massive hug, when team ran on field first thing jabari did was run over to bench kneel and give thanks.). Others script tooting their horn. Last night on jumbo fisher show they took time to feature a walk on whom coach kelly has noticed and gradually prompted. Enginners and coaches are some of the finest people on earth, yet they will not toot there own horn. The prefer to get what they deserve in the end. Often its not what or where they expect! 8. ATLANTA, ATLANTA. Customze a prentation as to how close gt is to aquarium, fox , Carling breweries (boy they had good free beer tasting = like all too good things proba ly gone). Ease of acesss gt martta airport, good food , safe campus . Have heard we only recruit via our own invite camps. If so Not sure this is wise. Sorry I got carried away
