Article in AJC below about Coach Simpson being named nominee for the Broyles award. We are going to have a lot of assistant coaches in high demand when the season ends! I hope J Batt is reviewing their contracts. Coach Key's as well!

"Georgia Tech defensive line coach Jess Simpson is a nominee for the Broyles Award, the Frank and Barbara Broyles Foundation announced Tuesday. The Broyles Award is given to the nation’s top assistant coach."

"Simpson, a former head coach at Buford High School, is in his first season with Tech. He has helped lead the Yellow Jackets’ defensive transformation as Tech goes into Friday’s regular-season finale at No. 6 Georgia ranked fourth in the ACC in total defense and fifth in rushing defense."

Jess Simpson was a home run hire. Not only as a coach, but also from a recruiting standpoint. He'll go down as one of the best HS coaches in GA history and that will open a lot of doors.
Simpson is a legend in GA HS football. He won 3 state championships in a row, took a year as runner-up, and then won 3 more in a row. Six in seven years.

Before the season, I heard that if Key hit certain marks, he would see his contract renegotiated. This was a BIG season for him and this program. For all intents and purposes, Key was given on a "show me" contract when he was hired as the permanent coach. Key's priority was also setting up this program for more resources to hire better coaches and for a bigger recruiting budget, not just to enrich himself.

With how this program has done on the field this season (we are going to end up between 7-9 wins), in addition to how we are recruiting (seriously, this may be the best recruiting class in decades), I'm pretty sure we're going to hear about Key's contract extension soon. Given how Key values the long term health of this program, I'm sure he's going to ask for a raise for all of his assistant coaches, support and recruiting staff, etc.
