Jackets schedule Mercer for 2026 season

I think we SHOULD be scheduling more in-state teams. It helps to give those programs some exposure, limits travel, and allows players to play against other players that they likely played with/against in high school. Plus, it can fuel a little in-state rivalry. Maybe not so much with Mercer, but I'm thinking more Ga State/Ga Southern.

Had this thought recently when we were playing W. Ga in hoops…how would y’all feel if we played some combo of Ga State, Southern, KSU, Mercer, W. Ga every year for our other 3 non con games? Obviously, I’d rather have big name marquee games, but could be cool for a couple years.

Clemson does this a lot. They typically will play another SC school just about every year. Furman, The Citadel, SC State, etc. I think it is a good idea. Would likely get fans from those schools in the stands and reduce they're travel budget.

I would think that we would not have to pay them as much for the game as it would reduce their travel budget. They will probably bring as many fans as a Northern Illinois or Boston College.

I was looking at another site and a GT fan was complaining about scheduling a team like Mercer, saying it was embarassing for us to schedule someone like that. The kicker was when he commented that you don't see successful programs like the dawgs dogs OR BAMA scheduling such patsies.
Really? 2024 - Tennessee Tech (FCS) and University of Massachusetts, 2023 - Ball State and Tennesse Martin (FCS), 2022, Samford(FCS) and Kent State, 2021 Charleston Southern (FCS). OK going forward 2025 Austin Peay, Marshall and Charlotte. So are they embarrassed by University of Georgia's schedule?

The guy had to be sarcastic considering Alabama played Mercer three days ago.

😂
When I saw this game listed while scrolling tv channels, I assumed it was a basketball game. Later when I saw the score scroll by on the ticker I was initially confused because my brain was telling me, “that seems more like a football score, but there is no way Alabama would have played Mercer in football?” 😂

the danger of playing in state schools other than UGA is a loss to any of them will make their recruiting in the state better. I would just as soon take that chance of a loss away. Obviously we shouldn't lose to any other school in Georgia but we generally trip up in at least one game where we are favorite every year

If we lose to an instate school besides UGA we’re in trouble anyway. I am glad we didn’t play State or Southern while CGC was here, because we definitely would’ve lost. If we’re in recruiting battles with State, Southern, Kennesaw, and Mercer we’re in even deeper trouble.

Scared to lose is not a mentality of a winning team.

Look at uga vs Ga Sou. The 2015 game went to overtime and uga has stated they will not play Ga Sou ever again. The mutts refuse to play Ga St, Mercer or Kennessaw St, despite their fellow $EC brethren playing them. Scared is all they are. We are the only school in the state to have played all D1 teams and that's something we have. We are starting to take the F$U approach.....any time, any where.
