What happened to the Paul Johnson who once famously said, when someone tried to excuse fumbles because of the offense, "There is no excuse for fumbles."? Is this guy going soft?

Stupid that he focuses on fumbles. They dominate our TOs because we throw so far less than most teams.

There is a seeming contradiction between your first and last sentences. Hard to focus on something too much when that something has cost a game already. Fumbles often are two-score flips and demand attention. Johnson has noted it and the fix has started,

The first point is a critique of the article which asserts we are bad as a team at fumbles over many seasons and thus a weakness of the offense as a system. This is silly because we need to be compared to other teams by looking at turnovers overall.

The second point is that, this year, we have been especially bad at turnovers. Internally, focusing on fumbles would be good since we are at more risk of them given the run/pass balance of our scheme.
