Saw him very early on tech green at Homecoming- asked him if he is as happy being here as I am that he is here. He gave a nice big smile. I said his marketing gt in Atlanta is unbelievably amazing. He headed off to be sure things are going on schedule well.
Is that the same marketing plan that is putting 35,000 in BDS and can’t even sell out an AMC game against UGA? If Cabrera, likes him and wants him to stay I’m fine with it, as Cabrera is the guy who loosened the GT Foundation purse strings for the AA. Batt is a meh AD, we would have been fine if he left.

I don’t necessarily think Batt leaving would’ve changed much, but what exactly do you expect the AD to do to bring fans in when the teams have underperformed for years? Football was Kansas levels of bad for like 6 straight years. 26-44 with 1 bowl game between 2017-2022, on top of already declining attendance. Basketball has made 1 NCAAT since 2010, and it was during Covid when fans couldn’t even go see them play.

Neither our football or basketball programs were even competitive for almost a decade. Football has gained more momentum in the last 2 years than it has probably since Calvin was here. Basketball is still struggling pretty bad, but at least recruiting has picked up drastically. I’m just really not sure what you want Batt (or any AD) to do to bring fans in?

Check the donations under Batt. Attendance is a problem across college football. It’s worse for us because most grads move elsewhere and we likely didn’t create many sidewalk fans 2017-2021 while TFG alienated a lot of fans.

Yeah, more sports that can't carry their own freight, that's a terrific idea
I mean if we go by that Then its cut them all but football, mens basketball and womens volleyball. kiss baseball goodbye too. Or we could play the sports the conference we want to get into does. Addign wrestlgin would be a good idea for that too.

GA Tech cut wrestling and mens gymnastics while I was there to create compliance with Title IX. They haven’t added a mens sport since that I am aware of. That’s going on a half-century ago now.

Women’s golf does seem like a sport that could be added, and would balance the men’s team.
For any of these, we’d need multiple sponsors.

Exactly- pour ALLL our money into the big 3 where we need it the most
I would be happy with Football, Men's Basketball, Baseball, Women's Basketball, Softball, Men's Golf and Women's Golf. Ironically, as I typed these, they are in order of attendance. From a butts in seats perspective, 98% of GT fans could care less about the others.

The bigger miss of my lifetime, not developing a world class swimming and diving program with the Olympic facility sitting on campus!

Several times the women's volleyball team gets more fans than the basketball and baseball teams.

Perhaps but do they generate more revenue than expenses? Let's focus and improve the sports we have now. Then consider expansion at that time. IMO. I don't believe growth in and of itself is necessarily a good goal (assuming of course that it does NOT generate income in excess of expenses).

Also already have the facilities to add about 8 ladies. The golf program is well funded. They do have a high travel budget but not that many to transport to tournaments. GT has done well in the country club sports. It would be the easiest to add IMO.

I agree. but the bigger question remains...why? What is the justification?

Have you watched women’s golf lately?
Don't get mad...but I got my Master's at UGA and while there, attended the NCAA Women's Golf tournament in Athens. That was probably 30 years ago....but I still remember it well. It was great fun and those young women were very talented.

I have. I do. It's televised weekly. Not certain as to why this is relative to the question of "why should GT add a ladies golf team",

BTW, a club I played while living in Ga. had a young lady who went on to play on the LPGA. At 12 years old, she was shooting low to mid 70's from the men's regular tees. Drive down the middle every time. Mid to long iron to near or on the green. up and down or two putt for par nearly every single hole. She was a better player at 8 - 10 yo than I have ever been (8 handicap at my best). So I understand how good these women are. Interestingly she didn't make much noise on the pro tour as she battled injuries plus she was relatively short off the tee as compared to her peers when healthy.
