I think this sums it up for our young team

Absolutely true @IronJacket7

Those losses from 14 speak to the loss of leadership, cheese referred to, as well as on field performance.

The losses to injury this year....that was probably tough to overcome even if the Oline had played up to snuff. I think Griffin's return next year will give the line a shot in the arm it needs. Griffin and Bryan at OT.....gonna smack some folks next year.

The perfect storm. Lose two wide receivers that kept the other team honest with catch after catch on 3rd and 8. Lose the best lineman we have had under PJ. The one that gave us all the 3rd and 2s. Throw in losing the average 5 year guys with infectious positive energy. Remind ourselves that last year was played with 3DTs with only one being limited by a short term injury and this year I look first to review the list of the walking wounded before reading anything else. Someone told me along time ago that to be a leader you must be a top performer in practice first and then make the plays on game day . Your team will not follow with out those things. We lack game changing players for our team to follow. It is very seldom that a under class man can do those things to become a leader. We will see who steps up next year to be a leader.

I don't think it took hearing coach say that for us to know that was the case. The lack of leadership has been apparent for a while now. I was hoping someone would stand up and take the reigns, but it hasn't happened.

We miss several of those guys from last year for sure. If would could have just one guy back, I would take Days in a heartbeat. He seems like a guy that just lifts the mood of the whole team and builds guys up. He lead both vocally and by example. The consummate team player and seemed to rub off on other guys as well. Hopefully someone begins to take this role as this year winds down and we head into next year. I don't care if it's a freshman.
I could not agree more...and a great combo with Laskey for a spirit of unshaking confidence and toughness vs this years team which seems to have traded for fatalistic confusion and fretful impatience....

No inside info here, but SD was a vocal leader last year before he was a starter at BB. Maybe leading by example can work when things are going well, but in my non-athletic experience, leading by example leads to failure.

No one overlooks you when you are picked to win the division in the offseason. Injuries aside, it is harder to motivate yourself when you are having success and getting a steady stream of positive attention all offseason.

The returning players will have plenty of motivation going into next season. Win or lose, I have watched enough CFB to know that the only thing worse than watching them struggle is the seven months coming up where I can't watch them at all. I don't think you can fix in a week what took all summer to build. The team and the coach are learning some lessons this year. The young guys will have a chance to show what they have learned.
