How many starters will be returning next season?

OL will be fine. With Griffin coming back, we are really only losing one starter: Chamberlain. If Joe can stay, the whole experienced depth thing is completely solved. If he doesn't, then Will Bryan will probably take over. With another year of growth on him.

WR will be fine as well with Summers and Stewart coming back and a bevy of big, fast guys pushing them.

DE will be fine. We tend to forget that the players here are all underclassmen, except RR-C. Another year in the weight room should pay off big here.

DT is a concern, but we have a bunch of potential doorstops (Sellars, Morgan, C-H, Glanton) coming up. Losing Gotsis will be a wrench, but I trust the staff here. They don't appear too worried.

LB is going to be one of the strongest positions on the team, for reasons given above + Alexander, Curry, and Cooksey. We'll be young, but with PJ and Mitchell starting we'll be more talented.

DB will also be loaded. Gray = all-ACC next year and the other usual suspects are getting loads of game experience this year.

It shapes up as the year we explode on the entire schedule. And, if that is at all favorable, we could be going somewhere significant. My only overriding concern is that many of our young players who should be getting game experience at AB and BB are hurt and aren't. Hope we can work that out early enough.

You mentioned at WR we will be fine, but didn't even mention our most targeted WR in June.

Exactly. I posted something funny my neighbor said about all our injuries, and the analysts converged. My reply to him, and now, to the board, is that I have counted up all the starters, including players who should have started had advice from the board been followed, and we will have 56 returning for 2016. That includes three recruits from the class of 2016 and one guy playing at another college (no wait, he won't have eligibility left. Shucks. That means only 55).

FWIW, i got that. @JorgeJonas made a joke about the Blocked Kick Returner as if that was a position. I tried to joke that Lance wasn't the starting Blocked Kick Returner.

I had seen some improvement but he sure is not getting much playing time.
He sits 30 feet in front of me and does often not check in with pelton's dt de players huddle while offense is on field. Not sure it means much.
It appears that the dc and dl coach are giving max possible time to gostis and gamble.

Unless we find a stud recruit - we will be very very thin at dt -- calling any graduating dt, here we are!

Wouldn't it be great to have 8 defensive lineman that we could ROTATE in each game?? What percentage of the defensive snaps did Gotsis and Freeman play on Saturday? 95%? Teams we play (Clemson, UGA, FSU, Miami....) have 8 man+ rotations. This leads to fresher bodies in the 4th quarter and less of a drop-off year-to-year. I know at Clemson, they try to split snaps 70/30, starter-to-back-up.

DE - Freeman
DT - Gotsis
DT - Jabari/Gamble
DE - Rod/Simmons

So, on Saturday, we rotated 6 guys on the D-Line. Is a rested Stargel/Henderson better than a tired Freeman/Jabari? I have no idea, but I do know that we need depth here.

Wish we could recruit at the level of Clempson but I don't see that happening. We lose enough good players to be worried about next year and return enough to be excited about next year. With what I have seen from our young guys this year, I am more optimistic about next year.

One thing that is often overlooked is the disparity in mental drain from academics between us and the factories. A lot is said about academics as it hampers recruiting, but it also has a huge negative impact on game readiness, imo. Factory players aren't devoting countless hours and brain drain to writing papers, doing projects and studying for tests, midterms and finals.

I wonder what our historical record is in games following midterms and finals? I bet it's horrendous.

Good Point. That would be interesting to know however I'll bet that for many players the finals for the "Softball 201-underhanded pitching concepts" class are as difficult for them as the MATH 2551 Multivariable Calculus class is for some Tech students :).
