How many starters will be returning next season?

I watched the game with a friend this past weekend and he said, "You guys will be returning 50 starters next year. That has to be a record." This comment came when Gray went down. He was referring, of course, to the injuries and the number of different faces who have played in significant roles this year. Assuming they all get healthy, there will be a silver lining, eventually, to the large number of missed games by starters and key subs.

defense. The whole secondary is gone. One LB, one DT....so we return 5 on D from season starters (not after injuries).

Offense. Lose, braun, chamberlain and joe if he doesn't apply for medical. Snoddy and Summers So we lose 5 starters on O from starting list before injuries.

now, lets do a post injury drop off analysis.

I feel good about one position in the secondary with gray coming in.
I feel good about LB with the experience Mitchell is getting.

DT is an issue. Gamble is back, but depth is young and inexperienced. Kallon needs to man up.

OL bryan, griffin, marshall, klock, brown should be very capable
AB should be fine, but needs to improve
WR is the same group; summers we lose, but lets face it, not much going on....

So generally, the issue will be DL, Secondary. OL needs to jell. Skill positions NEED TO improve bigtime.

All the young guys provide depth, but they are so inexperienced in live ball....so hard to rely on that.

Most worried next year (as I always am) about our DL. Without Gotsis, we ain't much there. Without a D line, our LB's and De backs are put in impossible situations. I actually think we have decent depth int he secondary (neither Austin twin is a starter for example)...and at LB (Alexander and Mitchell getting good PT) but without Gotsis, I am VERY worried about our D line.

O line also has me worried. We will lose 3 starters I think form our current O line. That group ha been subject to a lot of criticism (on message boards and from the coach). The young guys behind them haven't been good enough to displace the guys who aren't performing very well. That does not bode well.

Finally, we need one or two more guys with speed like JT and (I think) Marcus Marshall have shown. Game breaking threats. One at WR would be nice.

OL Devine, Burden and Bryan all return. Fromayan, Klock, Stickler, Brown, Whitley, A.Marshall backups from this year. Add in Chris Griffin, I think the O Line will be just fine.

I agree with just about every thought, in particular that you win and lose at the LOS. I have no explanation for the performance of the OL this season.

We have plenty of speed but a lot of it will be returning after season ending injuries.

NLT this time next year I think the AB's are going be looking real good. Just as soon as Lands-Davis gets the blocking down pat we're going to all be happy with him. The others are just as skilled as MLD but not as physical.

I thought the same thing about our DL once we lost Attachou, Cummings, and Dieke. Our DL has never really won us games. Our season really depends on our offense which I feel good about for next year.

DT is my worry. I have heard rumblings that Kallon may not be back. Even if he is back, I just don't think he is a player.

I think if guys like Gamble, Kallon, Henderson can at least hold the point of attack and be net even, we'll be OK to good on the DL because our group of DEs will be very good the next few years. Simmons is so close to breaking through to the next level, and Freeman is Freeman. Anree will be better next year, and will push for starter minutes.

I worry about the secondary more. Will be tough to replace guys who have played together as a starting unit the past 3 years.Luckily, a lot of the young guys are getting real reps this year.

I am not optimistic. I have been a fan since Smylie Gebhart, and can count on one hand the great DL 's we have had. DT's and DE's are what keeps us from sustaining great years in a row!

I agree with your points except we will have the speed by adding Cottrell, Benson, Walker, T Marshall, and Philpott.

We got Glanton, Sellers, and one of the Morgan twins too. Freeman and Simmons should be a little stronger along with Anree.

On O:

AB will be awesome. All our speed comes back, except Snoddy.

JT will be a senior and will finally not have to slow down to insure that the plays work. The real question will be who is #2.

BB will be loaded whether or not Marshall stays there. As everyone here must know by now, I'm hoping MM moves to AB, but that'll depend on how the returning injured shape up. I'm guessing Leggett or Quaide will start, but it could be MLD (he definitely moves back).

OL will be fine. With Griffin coming back, we are really only losing one starter: Chamberlain. If Joe can stay, the whole experienced depth thing is completely solved. If he doesn't, then Will Bryan will probably take over. With another year of growth on him.

WR will be fine as well with Summers and Stewart coming back and a bevy of big, fast guys pushing them.

DE will be fine. We tend to forget that the players here are all underclassmen, except RR-C. Another year in the weight room should pay off big here.

DT is a concern, but we have a bunch of potential doorstops (Sellars, Morgan, C-H, Glanton) coming up. Losing Gotsis will be a wrench, but I trust the staff here. They don't appear too worried.

LB is going to be one of the strongest positions on the team, for reasons given above + Alexander, Curry, and Cooksey. We'll be young, but with PJ and Mitchell starting we'll be more talented.

DB will also be loaded. Gray = all-ACC next year and the other usual suspects are getting loads of game experience this year.

It shapes up as the year we explode on the entire schedule. And, if that is at all favorable, we could be going somewhere significant. My only overriding concern is that many of our young players who should be getting game experience at AB and BB are hurt and aren't. Hope we can work that out early enough.
