I agree to some extent; the transfer portal has changed everything.

I'm hanging my hat on the idea that kids are won over by the genuineness of CBK & Co. and want to stay and play for some good coaches at a great school.

Now, maybe I'm all wrong, but I just don't see a kid who is starting at Tech making the jump to...oh, I dunno...Nebraska (or Arizona State...or both) where he has to fight for playing time and possibly ends up riding the pine. Conversely, kids who ARE sitting at the SEC schools may want a chance to start for us and get some TV exposure, etc.

Yes, the portal giveth and the portal taketh away, but I think that we will have more top talent coming in than going out most years.
Except our two best DL in the past couple of seasons transferred. Leader at South Carolina in sacks is Kyle Kennard 8.5 sacks and second at Ole Miss is Jared Ivey at 6 sacks. Obviously, they have better talent around them which makes getting sacks easier. But these two would have been a big help this year.

Money was obviously a big factor but we have a better chance of keeping our better defensive players with Santucci's staff.

Yes. Ivey left before NIL. Kennard had the $$ offer to stay but...grad school.
Lol, that is pretty naieve. Ole Miss and the entire SEC have been paying players for years and years, NIL just made it legal. And yes, I know this for a fact

But what I said was that a kid who is starting at Tech is unlikely to leave just to get lost in the depth chart at another school. Four-stars at other schools who are not getting reps because of the five-stars ahead of them may consider Tech a good alternative.

The two guys you reference aren't sitting on the bench behind other players. They were good enough to go elsewhere, make more money, and start.

Okay...that's going to happen, too. But I think that until our roster is loaded, we have a better chance of gaining more than we lose through the portal.

At least, I hope that's the case.

No one is questioning whether teams cheat. But, $$ wasn't the reason Ivey went to Ole Miss. He went to Ole Miss because Tech was a train wreck at the time and he wanted a better environment. He got plenty of encouragement.

BTW that's a pretty ballsy comment to call someone you don't know, when you don't know what they may know, naive. Smacks of hubris.

I was commenting on your statement which implied money wasn't a factor because NIL didn't exist when Ivey left, not you as a person. You are correct I do not know why you don't believe money was not a factor at all, but I stand by my statement based on what little I know and sorry if that offends you. My apologies.

An article I read said Ivey left after 21 season. Jan 2022.
That actually sounds right. '21 season was his last. Pretty sure that was still before NIL, but what do I remember? Either way, from what I was told by someone that should have known, his move was not about $$, but more about coaching, specifically position coaching. Take if for what it's worth as an anonymous comment on a message board.

The only offensive thing was calling me naive when you don't know me. From what I was told at the time, it was about other things, not money. Believe what you want, we all have that right. I'm good if you're good.

NIL was introduced to NCAAF on July 31, 2021.
