[QUOTE="YlJacket, post: 860987, member: 2784"] I will give Pastner benefit of the doubt for starting the small lineup. Lot of coaches simply try to get their best 5 players on the court almost regardless of position. I've done it myself. And he was making the same bet he made against BC that he could score his way to a win. I just don't get the defensive scheme to have the primary Bacot defender jump the first screen first time and every time. Usher actually did an OK job on Bacot when he was guarding him as he was strong and energetic enough to front him effectively. Saba tried hard when he guarded Bacot but he kept getting caught on the high side and Bacot simply rode him up the lane to create a passing lane and driving lane to the basket. The other part that was disappointing was watching Pastner as our defense was getting shredded start to just sub liberally (or some would say randomly) trying to find players that could play D - but he never went back to the core concept that switching Usher/Saba off of Bacot as the first action of any defense was the issue and fix that. On the other side of the ball, UNC put Bacot on Moore. We put Moore in the corner and Bacot would keep one foot in the paint toward Moore but not go much further unless he actually got the ball. I got a chuckle watching Khalid pump fake a defender who was 3 steps off of him waiting to see if he was going to drive. But more to the point, it allowed UNC to play a defensive set that was essentially have Bacot play a zone while Leaky Black played no help / no switch defense on Devoe going over any elbow ball action we may run. Give Black credit for taking Devoe out of the game. As you and others have said, we didn't have any wrinkle to routinely give Devoe any help and he had a bad matchup with an elite defender. I will give Pastner credit that out of the TO before halftime we ran a different look that got Usher going downhill to the basket. It was also one of the times that was funny watching how fast and complete the whole UNC team collapsed to the rim and shut him down. As an aside, I would love to see Devoe add a floater to his game so he can get a decent shot off without driving all the way to the rim where he gets doubled and tripled. Essentially over driving.
