Yeah, I figured, but wasn't sure if Cross was going to "repurpose" Whitlock into more of a PG, which may be hedge against not getting Garland...or he's just collecting good guard talent. If we can get Garland, the staff should 100% take him...having two guards that can play at a high level wins you a ton of games.

I was looking at Whitlock's stats, and while he's buckets all day, he does have a LOT of games where he's getting 5+ assists. He's for sure a volume shooter at 14+ attempts per game.

Against high majors last year:

Houston: 18pts/0assists/9rebs
WVU: 2/0/1 (attrocious shooting night for him going 1-8)
Rutgers: 21/1/3

Other games of note:

TX State (2nd Sun Belt): 31/1/0
LIU (1st NEC): 22/2/2
Colgate (2nd Patriot): 12/3/3, 32/3/3, 22/10/3 (Patriot Semifinal)
Navy (1st Patriot): 31/3/1, 20/1/2
Boston University (Patriot Final): 18/4/3

Prairie View (NCAAT First 4): 5/2/3 (2-15 shooting)

Outside of one game against Colgate where he had 10 assists, stats are showing he does struggle to distribute (or at least gets assists) against the better teams. I would say against the lower competition teams, he's probably 4-5 assists per game. If he's just going to be true CG and our "scorer" distributing matters less as that won't be his primary job...which is scoring. He can definitely score. I doubt he's getting 20pts/game in the ACC, but if he can get around 15pts/game that's will be good for GT.

As it stands, right now GT has two guys who can get us 10-15+ points a night: Whitlock and Valdes. If we can get another 2 guys (hopefully one of them is a PG), Cross should have a good squad to work with.
Not too big on assists but he can score.

If I were betting I would say it's GT. No reason to wait if he made up his mind while on his visit to Oregon.
Mikey Lewis is expected to announce today according to an Oregon fan that claims it’s sourced. But he doesn’t know the destination, let’s hope for Oregon.

They also told Pizza that if we are offering a solid bag we likely have the edge. Again, grain of salt. They do seem to be awful worried about their NIL fund though.

I was just saying maybe Valdes is the type of personality that people won't take advantage of. We haven't had anyone like that in quite some time. Not cheap shotting others, but not afraid to mix it up so to speak. A guy home fans can get behind and appreciate his play if you know what I mean.

I say this knowing absolutely nothing about the guy other that what I've read on here.
GT has had quite a lineage of blue collar players and if that’s what he is we’re really going to like him.

I just realized that Victor Valdes's assists/game trails Garland by only 0.1/game.

If Garland comes to GT, Cross can do some pretty cool stuff with Garland and Valdez on the court at the same time.

Call me shell-shocked when it comes to context-less assist numbers. Since Lamar and Nait's assists numbers weren't that far off but their prowess as playmaker were in two different galaxies.

Call me shocked that you continue to run your cringy mouth when context was given earlier in the thread for Garland and Valdes against P4 competition and top of the standings peer opponents. (SPOILER: BOTH are still VERY good against high level competition...hence why some of us are excited about them)

Focus less on trying to make cringy jokes and shoving terrible ice cream in your mouth, and worry more about making more intelligent posts.

"I don't care" but you're trying to get a dig in by being "shell shocked". Yup...that's exactly what "I don't care" means.

You've known me long enough to know I'm actually a nice guy, but if you're going to dish it out, I'm certainly happy to dish it back.

Garland would be a nice addition. We would have some hungry shooters and a decent PG. We still need a competent big to pnr and rebound, but the roster is looking pretty good. Not great, but competitive with the middle of the ACC.
