I'm always interested when I come across GT folks in the music world, so why not start a thread about it. Anyone else have any bands/artists on their radar?

Cody Parks - country artist, GT alum, and my understanding is he played football for the Jackets (w/ a different, non-stage name that I haven't confirmed).

From a quick search he made the Top 12 for Georgia's "Male Artist of the Year." Here's a link to vote: http://www.georgia-country.com/awards.php

Just confirmed via www.ramblinwreck.com by searching "Monroe" (as in Monroe Georgia).

I recall the drummer from "38 Special" left the GT architecture program to pursue his musical career. He consulted the Associate Dean of Architecture (Frank Beckum) who advised him to "go for it...you can always come back."
Said drummer later sent Frank the band's gold record, which was proudly displayed on the deans wall.

Understand, Frank was nicknamed "the Torch" in the architecture program. Undergrads would stay up for days inking their designs on illustration boards to present for "jury" -in front of faculty on the bridge of the 'old ' architecture building - Frank would walk the bridge and turn over boards not worthy of review. Students returned the sentiment by showing up at his Arch history lectures with pillows. That guy was loved and hated. But he was good.
His freshman indoctrination included: "look to your left and to your right, they will not be a part of your sophomore year."

Jeff Carlisi, former lead guitarist for 38 special, was the GT arch alum ('74 I think) you're thinking of. Also, although not direct, John Q Bullard's (Tech Magazine did a special on him a few months ago) son, Kim Bullard, plays keyboards for Elton John.

Might be. I was in the deans office for a different reason and I commented on the record on his wall. Hence my tale. His story.
He was proud of that record.

I think I was on every "Dean's List" possible, academic or otherwise, at one time or another with the exception of the expulsion list. Not sure why the man had so much patience for me. I wouldn't have made it to year 2 playing under today's rules.
