Another thread gave me this idea. If you could assemble a starting lineup of Georgia Tech players from any time in the history, what would that lineup be? I’ll give it a shot, but since I haven’t been around long, my knowledge base of players is fairly small.

QB Joe Hamilton
HB Clint Castleberry
HB Joe Guyon
WR Calvin Johnson
WR BeyBey Thomas
TE Darren Waller (I’m cheating a bit here)
OT Bill Fincher
OG Shaq Mason
C Bill Curry
OG Rufus Guthrie
OT Walker Carpenter

DE Pat Swilling
DT Joe Anoa’i
DT Adam Gotsis
DE Marco Coleman
LB Maxie Baughan
LB Ted Roof
LB Lucius Sanford
CB Willie Clay
CB Najee Mustafaa
S Randy Rhino
S Ken Swilling

K Harrison Butker
P Pressley Harvin

Are you selecting based solely on production at GT or have you taken professional production into consideration?

Tough to leave out Derrick Morgan and Morgan Burnett. Obvious debates at RB and K. I feel like there’s other candidates for CB but can’t think of any obvious alternatives.

Corner was probably the hardest one. If I had just done 4 DBs, it would have been much easier. We’ve had some really good safeties!

AugustaBuzz may correct me here, but I do not believe Randy Rhino ever lined up at S for GT on any play in his three years...He was a corner..
And Kent Hill must be at OT on any GT-best list

For receivers, I’d go
Calvin Johnson, Kelley Campbell, Kerry Watkins.
If there’s room for a 4th, I’d add Dez White. I feel bad overlooking Kent Hill and others.

For QB, I lean towards Shawn Jones.

At DB, it’s rough. At safety, I like Morgan Burnett and Ken Swilling. Willie Clay is a pick at corner. I’ll throw some props to Jemea Thomas too.

At DE, Marco Coleman and Pat Swilling work. Attaochu and Gathers are our sacks leaders. This is a really tough one.

At LB, I like Phillip Wheeler and Calvin Tiggle. (Brooking had the numbers, but I think the defense we ran had a lot to do with that).

At DT, we’ve got Vance Walker and Darryl Richard.

At Kicker, I’ll say Butker. Range, consistency, he’s not our stats leader, but he’s really good.

At punter, PH3.

At center, Bill Curry is the traditional choice, but Michael Cheever probably outweighed him on the field by 40 pounds or more. Pre-1975 was just physically a different era.
Our flexbone linemen are harder to put 1:1 with other positions, but I’ll put Shaq Mason at one guard, and John Davis at the other.
I like Mike Mooney at one offensive tackle and Kent Hill at the other.

At Kick Return, I’m tempted to put Kelley Campbell, and Gary Lee for Punts. (Juanyeh has a shot at punt returns if he returns to form)

I think Durant Brooks was better at GT than Pressley Harvin. But with Durant only playing here two years, I can see why some would go with Harvin.

Yes, I remember Randy playing safety against SCal under Fulcher.

All the players I would pick have been named. It’s a shame though to leave Joe Harris off at LB. Baughan and Sanford have to be on the list though.

I again am too young but ted roof was that good? I’ve always heard about the leaky roof defense.
