I'm guessing you're not enamored with this prospective hire.

I took a class from Jud Ready and did undergrad research with him! He offers students extra credit if you can find him at a football game. Also, why are we asking for MBob to resign?

Unless Red has some evidence of some serious bad things with regards to Pastner, I've lost a lot of respect for him with this topic.

The news of a possible JP tenure at GT left me very underwhelmed to say the least. Having said that, I would be willing to support the guy if he lands the job, until such time he has proven not worthy of the support. I'm a fan of all things GT, and supporter of GT basketball, but I'm not "tied in" to the underbelly of college basketball, so I can't say with certainty if JP is a good prospective Head BB coach or not. I can say, having read a lot of R'Reds post over the years, that I put a good bit weight on his opinion. If he is this adamant against it, JP makes me more than nervous. Maybe Red has some info that can't or shouldn't really be divulged on a public message board, but Id like to hear some basis for the argument that Mbob should resign just for proposing the candidacy.

Dr. DesRoches is a totally awesome and completely cool guy. If you write him, you'd better be clear, lucid, factual and articulate. No BS if you want his attention and respect.

Not going to write a long post from my phone, but I completely agree with Red on this. Pastners relationship with the players in his program alone should disqualify him, irregardless of the on court performance (which has sadly been a clear representation of the behind the scenes mess).

Pastner simply is not qualified to represent our Institute.

Im not sure you can just fire him right now. We hired him to make decisions like this and we kind of have to play it out even if we can all see that it is a poor one. I will say that if for some reason we have an opening for our head football coaching position in the next few years, I have zero confidence in Bobinski finding us a new coach. Our President should demand a search committee run things with Bobinski having little say in the matter.

RRed, I trust you, and I will, but can you provide some additional reasoning.

I do believe Bobo should not have fired Gregory this year. Terrible and bad decision. Aside from the fact we are paying he and Hewitt two more years each, the optics of firing a coach coming off his best season, 20+ wins, and NIT bid, AND a sterling academic success looks bad to prospective coaches. If that's not enough, what is, would be the single question I'd ask if being contacted for the job. It looks really bad for GT.

It's a move a basketball factory makes - where it's a lot easier to get top recruits and perennial final fours. That's not Tech. I fully believe one reason Bobo is getting turned down is due to the perception no one trusts him after firing Gregory coming off the season he just had.

I was born in 80. Been a die hard GT fan since birth. Raised in a die hard GT family.

In 35 years of being a GT fan I have never felt the way I feel today.

Where are we going? What are we doing?

First, glad to see you over here.

Second, if we make this hire, the contract needs to be very favorable for us. Low buyout, short term, no crazy salary.

Third, I agree this is a horrible hire. This is Bobblehead(trying) saving face with a name hire from a basketball school.

Yea,sure I will call / write / email but,

- will ask that Peterson be canned if MBob is

- will want to know why we expect to drive a Cadillac on a Chevy budget

- want to know why we have as many Students voting on these matters as we do Alumni (people with real world business, working experience). Have checked the BoD of 3 of our biggest rivals and none have such a setup, Maybe we are just trying to be sweet to the lil darlings. Sadly, it could well be hurting very important decisions but what does that matter?

For some additional background: Shaq Talks

I'm not really feeling this hire either. Pastner's rep has really taken a hit.

Yes, he will recruit, but he has a lot of work to do.

It's apparently going to happen. Hopefully he has learned and won't let it get sideways. From the Memphis guy who was on last night it's almost like he's TOO straight edge. I mean I don't want Tim Floyd or Larry Eustachy but JP seems militant.

Care to expand upon "relationship with his players?"
