Man, the football gods are not smiling on us this year.

Maybe we need to go Mayan and sacrifice somebody.... Hmmmm....

How about this for sacrifice? Or, would that bring more bad luck?

How are these different - medical RS vs 6th yr? Are they "granted" by the same folks, NCAA? Also, when why would a non-RS student-athlete need a medical redshirt since they could just use their normal redshirt (hope that makes sense)?
So say you are playing as a true freshman and it is now your senior year. You get injured in the 2nd game and are out for the rest of the year. This is your 4th year of eligibilty that you have used since you've already played 1.5 years. You can petition the NCAA for a medical redshirt which gives you that senior year as a redshirt year forgivving the 1.5 games you already played. You can then play the next year as a RS-SR.

If you miss a year for RS for no reason other than to RS the NCAA views that differently.

KS does a good job explaining it here:

The NCAA manual states that “this (6th year) waiver may be granted, based upon objective evidence, for reasons that are beyond the control of the student-athlete or the institution, which deprive the student-athlete of the opportunity to participate for more than one season in his or her sport within the five-year period.”

So you have 5 years to play 4 of them. If you miss 2 season due to things you can't control then you can get a 6th year. If you miss it based on things you CAN control (ie. a normal RS year you're missing the year for reasons within your control) then it is seen as you using it.

They’ll also have to explain why two seasons were unavailable for use during their five-year clock. Byerly redshirted and then sat out a year as a transfer. Joe redshirted and then suffered the shoulder injury. Both cases would be strengthened if, rather than having redshirted their first season, they didn’t compete due to circumstances beyond their control. A redshirt year is considered a circumstance within control.

Summers and Gamble are back though

Speed kills and we need speed.

The only way we are going to get better is to get some players back. Summers and Gamble are a great start if they are 100%. Summers can block and catch. Plus he's a rJr. Gamble will provide good depth and play as much as he can.

All I want is a W and another week to get better.

Also per Ken on Twitter, JT had his best week of practice this year.
I don't know what to make of us. Halfway through the season, 2-4, and his offensive production is offensive? What happened to him, because that lightning quickness is no longer there. Speed, yes. But no moves left apparently.

JT has been banged up since the ND game.

As @gtg936g stated, he's banged up, but also the offense isn't moving as smoothly as it did last year. It's probably causing him to second guess responsibilities during a play. Last year everyone knew where to be and who to block, the new cast is erratic which doesn't allow JT to be dynamic. He needs to settle into the role of game manager which is unfortunate because we all know what he's capable of. JMO

Cab the title be changed to "NOT good news"
Ain't that the d*** truth. :(

Re: "normal" redshirting -- that's not up to the SA, but it is within the institution's control regarding the rule as applied to an application for the 6th year waiver, correct?
