our kicking game was superior this yr, exactly what I would hope we would have in Srs

Butker--85%FGs , 1st in Conf, of course he had fewest and long of 42 but very good, 100% on xpts also
Rodwell- #2 in punt avg , net/gross ? still very good, and the new running kick gave a "kick" to our punt game also.
btw-the punt to in uva game to 1 yd line may have saved that game , as well uga game 45 avg

the new recruits MUST be good to limit drop-off

Butker was rock solid as expected. Not really called upon for any heroics this year so didn't stand out.
Rodwell did great. Got benched for inconsistency, took back over, and was near-perfect from then on.

Thankfully we have recruited a kicker and a punter which are in the top 3 of their class. Not just that, but they have monster legs, so the questions will be more in adaptation to college and consistency.

Granted, it's with a HS kicking tee, but Bulovas has range up to 70 yards.

I suspect that some day years from now, some of you will be on this very board saying something to the effect of "say what you will about Johnson, but that nasty cuss learned his lesson and always had good kickers after his first couple years".

The commitment the staff has made to recruiting high level specialists is notable among teams that I'm familiar with.

Kicking was very good this year. That being said, I'm even more excited about next year. Bulovas seems to be an excellent kicker with a great leg. Harvin seems to have a boot as well, but I hope we don't use him very much;)

I loved the running punt.

There's a reason why that part of the Game is called Special Teams. Between snapping, blocking, holding the ball for the kick, the actual kick/kickoff/punt, and kickoff/punt coverage, there is actually a lot of things happening in a very small amount of time, sometimes in a compressed area, and sometimes with guys going at full tilt.

Now factor in bad weather/bad field conditions and one starts to get a better appreciation for how well our guys actually did this past Season.

Harvin may be the best punter in college football next year. He has a freakish leg. Butker will be hard to replace but we have a good replacement coming in, just hope he can put kickoffs out the back as good as Butker.

Hats off to Rodwell. Went from cringing whenever he punted to feeling good about it in one season. With all the work these guys put in it's so nice to see it come together for him. I agree that some of his punts were huge contributions in W's down the stretch.

Then there is the fake punt where he goes airborne. Classic.

Who's coming in to kick FGs at the Flats next year? That's one thing Tech has always seemed to have... decent FG kickers. There was a time around 1986-87 where we had a guy that looked like he was kicking bricks when the ball left his foot, but overall, our placement kickers have been above-average to near great. Harrison Butker is probably the best we've had in the distance department in a while. It was good to be able to have so many kickoffs for touchbacks the last few years.

One of the commenters over on the Dawg Nation blog (yes, it's interesting to read from time to time...) was afraid Coach Smart was not going to give Rodrigo Blankenship a scholarship next year. He's a non-scholarship walk-on, and the commenter made a statement that Blankenship would leave UGA after the season. Don't know where that rumor came from or if it's based in reality, but he would be a pretty decent kicker for some school. If we didn't have someone already coming in next year and didn't have to bench the guy for a season due to transfer rules, he'd probably fit in well at Tech...
