There’s a certain poster here who would never shut up about Gibbs being a wide receiver in the NFL because he wasn’t a true running back. And would argue with anyone who believed otherwise. I’ll never understand that logic.

Yep guys do where they were drafted from or their highschools. Though gibbs did say GT once as well. "Alabama by way of GT" during hate week last year.
I've told this story before.

When the NFL began this business of having the players introduce themselves and give their schools it caused a problem for there Raiders. Otis Sistrunk, the all Pro forever DT for the Raiders, didn't go to college. The Raiders put "U.S. Mars" as his school since Otis had been in the Marines. Alex Karras saw him on screen, standing on the sidelines with his signature bald head steaming in the cold and said that U.S. Mars stood for University of Mars. From then on Otis always introduce himself as having gone to "THE University of Mars".

Tip of the hat to Wikipedia for the origin of Sistrunk saying this. He was always one of my favorite players.

That was me and my argument was that he would have been better at WR/SB when he was at Tech because that would have given Mason his 20 carries and Tech his 100 - 120 ypg. That would have worked better then what TFG tried.

But I was wrong about him. It happens. I was wrong again just last month.

The hate (or ambivalence) for Gibbs is crazy to me. He played at Tech, gave us some incredible moments and has shouted out Tech on more than one occasion. Dude showed he would be special the first time he touched the ball and I'm glad I got to see him in a Tech jersey. If only we had a competent coaching staff at the time...

not hate. but certain people beatify these EX-players that LEFT our school to go someplace else, and post about their every move here.

well, they're not here, so who cares?

it's not love, hate, or anything else. it's indifference since they're gone.

next year, every Romello Height sack will get posted here, with dreamy eyes of "what could've been", just like the SC and Miss guys.

I don't hate guys that leave, I just don't care. Updates should be in the lounge or someplace, because they are not Tech players any more.

I’m torn about how I feel about Gibbs time at Tech. It’s like, of course we lost him because of Collins’ ineptness. But the only reason we had him in the first place is because Collins hired Tashard Choice. If there’s no Collins, is there a world (in 2019) in which GT even gets Gibbs? Do we just assume Choice signs up to coach at GT for another HC? Choice (and, technically, Key) got bamboozled like a lot of us did.

Anyone who could not see that Gibbs was a spectacular talent from the time he arrived was blind. Our blocking sucked during his 2 years, for the most part, and you could still see how great the man was.

I will always appreciate him for giving GT an opportunity - And, most importantly, Tashard will always get the credit for landing him - TFG had almost nothing to do with it.

Had Gibbs and Mason and only won 3 because we wanted a pro elite effort based style offense. We should of ran the bawl. CPJ could of gone .500 in his sleep with that roster.
Speaking of Mason--when he was starting for 49ers and got his chance on national tv to say where he went to school---his high school came out hmmmm

To me Gibbs is a different situation than the Miss St and SoCar guys. The reason he came to Tech was to play for Choice not TFG. When Choice left, he knew TFG was a joke so he moved on. It wasn't for money or anything like the other guys. He also still promotes Tech as well as Bama. He had both displayed pretty equally on draft day.

He's the 3rd best in the league this season, always good in space and Lions have now figured that out. Had we even thought to do that and had Mason as a 2nd threat between the tackles, the man with the red nose and rainbow hair along with the tasty legume might still be here (shudder the thought). Add in the QB who was a M away from being good & who knows what could have been. The Yin & Yang of GT football.

I believe CBK knew all about Collins, people do not yet understand that nobody wanted the GT job with what was here and the transition that we were going to have to go through, there had to be a sacrificial lamb until GT was again a place to coach and Collins was it.
The part that pissed me off was the 7 year contract given, never have believed 7 years was necessary. I believe CBK ended up exactly as he intended all through the whole process.
