How did they do against Clemson and Notre Dame?
Well, they didn't get blown out by them....
They did manage to beat Syracuse though.

Our three conference wins are against teams with a combined record of 6-20 (.231) vs the .346 of NCSUs opponents. I think we can win this game but I don't know if that's the metric I'd cling to for justification.
Actually, its the perfect metric to use. What it means is they haven't beaten anybody of substance, nearly losing to bad teams too. That means they are not a powerhouse - indeed he said NC State should be favorites, but we can pull the mild upset. That's exactly the fair minded way to look at this game. When you're a 1 touchdown underdog, that's a game you have a chance to win if you play well.
It might be if it were truly accurate. It was a bit of a cherry picked stat leaving out top 25 opponent Liberty, who's only loss was to NCSU. That brings NCSUs opponent record to 26-35 or .426 which is considerably better than the number posted. I didn't say it wasn't the best stat to use. I said, considering the comparison to our opponents records, it's not the metric I'd cling to. I stand by that.
BTW, I also said we can win this game.
Liberty would be an above average ACC team this year. They’re 2-1 (all away games) in the ACC with a win over VT, who is an above average ACC team right now and a blocked FG loss to NCSU, who is also above average.Well, we beat Jacksonville State in 2017 and they went 10-2. Only losing to us and in the FCS playoffs.
If teams like Liberty or Coastal Carolina played in a P5 conference they’d be below average teams.

Outside of ND and Clemson, which ACC teams would undoubtedly beat Liberty on a week-to-week basis? Maybe Miami, but Liberty is at least a toss-up against all others and a favorite against several.
The refs didn’t call the play back, Fuente called a timeout prior to the play. Also, VT lost a lot of players to COVID early in the season, but this article only mentions one player, a TE, missing the game entirely. Do you have a citation for VT players missing the Liberty game due to COVID?Clemson, Notre Dame, Miami, North Carolina, etc. Even Virginia Tech. They had a ton of people out to COVID that game, and actually had won the game before the Refs called back their touchdown and let Liberty rekick their field goal. Their other ACC win was Syracuse LOL. They’re a good team, but you put them up against a 10 game ACC schedule with these teams and they’re somewhere between 3-5 wins.

I find it comical that you’re laughing at Liberty’s win over Syracuse after Syracuse beat us. Liberty is likely 5-2 in conference play against our current ACC schedule.
Maybe so, but they're 2-1 vs the ACC this year.
Well, our resident Syracuse expert has weighed in...ya'll better listen to the man.Pretty good summary. As to how this translates to our game, one of the key differences is that the Syracuse defense is better than ours. They actually pack a good punch on that side of the ball. But our offense (and OL) is better than Syracuse's.
Net net it should be a good game Saturday. Depends on which version of NC State and Georgia Tech shows up.
I don't know, it makes sense. They are good enough to beat bad teams and not good enough to beat good ones...they just happen to play a lot more "bad" teams than "good" teams. After all, the ACC has an abundance of the former and not so many of the latter. Our three conference wins are against teams with a combined record of 6-20 (.231) vs the .346 of NCSUs opponents. Could be worse...we could be Syracuse. The NC State game was about the third game I have seen them play where they could have pulled out a win but just did not make the plays in crunch time. College football, other than for the elite factories, is a tough business with the difference between a win and a loss for most teams is razor thin. This is a team we beat pretty good last year but they are much better this year on both sides of the ball with the possible exception of running the ball. They are not a very good running team this year which we may be able to take advantage of this week.Yeah. I'm not saying NCSU is a world beater, and I really think this is a winnable game, but we did lose to Syracuse and BC pretty soundly, and barely beat FSU. In a year or two I think we are in a much better place, but right now we are still green enough to lose games we shouldn't.
Maybe. When I watched the Liberty and NC State game there was a big difference in the size and physicality of the Pack compared to Liberty. The NC State backs are big and broke tackles all night but NC State did not play well or smart. Dumb penalties, two turnovers in the red zone and the Hugh F. magic when Liberty had the ball kept Liberty in the game. Number 11, the Pack linebacker was all over the field and blocked the Liberty field goal that would have won the game for them. Hockman, the NC State quarterback did a lot of the same things he did in the other game I watched against Syracuse, held the ball too long and took too many sacks. Liberty did not look that imposing compared to State but every time you look up, some SOB is running free like in a Saturday morning fraternity game but that is what Liberty is like. They don't look that great getting off the bus but they are persistent as hell. They did not seem to be the least bit intimidated playing the big bad Pack out of the big boy conference.Well, we beat Jacksonville State in 2017 and they went 10-2. Only losing to us and in the FCS playoffs.

I'll have you know Georgia State is in the Sunbelt with Coastal Carolina and they beat Tennessee last year at Tennessee as 24 point underdogs. They also almost beat Louisiana who was ranked #19 and then got shut out by #15 ranked Coastal Carolina.... they have played a tougher schedule than Ohio State. So I wouldn't laugh off Sunbelt teams. (I am biased though as a Georgia State Alum)If teams like Liberty or Coastal Carolina played in a P5 conference they’d be below average teams.
Here is something that I may have been missed in this thread and I was thinking of starting a new thread, but...
Six teams (BC,WF,Pitt,GT,FSU,Syr.) play both Notre Dame and Cemson.
Six teams (UM,UNC,VT,UVA,Lville,Duke) play only one, Notre Dame or Clemson.
ONLY ONE TEAM (NC State) plays NEITHER NOTRE DAME NOR CLEMSON.
Somehow, by fluke or whatever…, NC State has a decided advantage over all the others as far as record, final standings and bowl (?) opportunities. If NC State had played both ND and Clemson as six of the unluckier teams have, they might well be 4-5 now instead of 6-3.
