Keep in mind, they lost their QB for several games to an injury—and he’s a difference maker for them. Trying to play the transitive wins game is usually silly, and it’s sillier when you leave out who was and wasn’t available to play.

The same thing goes for us. That's the nature of football. We've lost several people to injuries for the year. When's the last time you saw Ahmarean Brown on the field? How long will Gibbs be out for? Think about all the lost pieces on our DL. Where's Ezzard? Same with our OL. We may be down Mason, Gibbs, and Griffin - 3 incredibly great running backs.

Wasn’t he lost for the year? Leary got hurt against Duke in October I believe.

NC State's QB was hurt in their 5th game (they were actually losing to Duke at the time), and they've played 10. There really isn't a discernible difference in their play before or after the injury. While he was playing, they barely beat Wake Forest, got crushed by Virginia Tech, and barely beat Pitt by 1. After the injury they nearly beat Miami, but also only beat Liberty by 1 point and barely beat Syracuse. They are 3-1 with him, and 4-2 without him. The 2 losses were North Carolina and Miami.

Ezzard played Saturday, he got flagged at one point I think for holding.

Watched NC State play Syracuse. Syracuse led at halftime, led at the end of the third quarter, and then just could not get a first down when they needed one. Eventually, the Pack burned them repeatedly with long passes to a couple of outstanding receivers, number 88 (I think) a big guy with good wheels, and a rather undersized slot receiver who caught everything thrown his way. Syracuse should have won that game but you know what they say about bad teams...they find ways to lose. NC State's quarterback reminds me a little of that guy from Boston College, holds the ball too long, takes unnecessary sacks but he can really sling it. They have a really big back but struggled to run against the Orange. I think we can beat them but this is a team that can score points in a hurry. I think we need to do what we did against Duke and run the football but without Gibbs, I just don't know. What are they? 7-3 something like that? They just don't really look that great except their receivers are very good. They did get pressure on the Orange quarterback pretty well at times and they are decent against the run. No Gibbs or Mason would mean Jeff would have to play lights out.

Pretty good summary. As to how this translates to our game, one of the key differences is that the Syracuse defense is better than ours. They actually pack a good punch on that side of the ball. But our offense (and OL) is better than Syracuse's.

Net net it should be a good game Saturday. Depends on which version of NC State and Georgia Tech shows up.

Hockman played really well in the 2nd half last week against Syracuse. If he keeps that up he could torch us. Their rush defense is decent also so I doubt there will be as many chunk plays as last week. If we play a clean game though then we have a reasonable chance. -8 seems about right.

We got this... NCST should be favored; but we can pull the 'mild' upset.

NCST's 6 conf wins are against teams with a combined 18-34 record.
Ga Tech has not lost at Carter-Finley since 2000 (IIRC).

Our three conference wins are against teams with a combined record of 6-20 (.231) vs the .346 of NCSUs opponents. I think we can win this game but I don't know if that's the metric I'd cling to for justification. :p
