I can empathize with your frustration.

I can also say that we shouldn't care about these rankings. It's cool to have a cute little number to the left of your team's name, but I'm a lot more concerned with the number to the right of it.

I expect the Jackets will wind up around #20. Jackets are #27, Clemson is #13.
27+13=40, divided by 2=20.

We’re Georgia Tech, we can do that!

Seriously, I suspect that our history of inconsistency makes poll voters reluctant to rank us – we don’t get the benefit of ranking inertia from the prior year like many of the perennial powers, and if we are a good team one year, we tend to follow it up with a lackluster year. I think this hurt us in 2016, when we had 9 wins, including 3 over SEC teams, but were outside the rankings at the end of the season.

Being viewed as not having elite talent is another headwind. We probably need to put together a series of 8-10-win seasons to change this mindset.

I think they've got it about right. Tech has a bigger edge on offense than Clemson has on defense, and the Jackets are at home. Plus, the Jackets are firing on all cylinders and Clemson is sputtering.

One of two things will happen. We will either beat Clemson, probably handily, or they will figure out the mess they have on offense and be a stout national contender for the rest of the season. There is no way that the Clemson team that played Troy will beat us. Their ranking and that spread do not match what they have put out on the field so far. I wouldn't touch the spread from either side though.

Undoubtedly. If the Clemson team shows up that we saw in their first two games of the year we beat them like drum. But somehow I think we will see the best Clemson team of the year.

My take is the rankings still have some influence on who gets into the final 12 teams. If we don't win the ACC championship, that may be important. I know it' s a stretch to think about that at this point in the season. I like being ranked personally, but even I didn't, I think it might be helpful.

I do care about rankings. While I agree they don’t mean a whole lot by week 2, the inertia of being rated early on means a whole lot to sort out the jumble of 9-3 type teams late in the season. Case in point, Notre Dame is a top 10 team and hasn’t won a game yet…
