God I hope we win. This hype train is rolling at full speed. If we don't it's going to be back to the same $hit about how we can't beat defenses with top level talent. And the offense only preforms well against lesser opponents. This is that game that will really put us over the top. The average college football fan doesn't know to much about us. Especially up here in Big 10 country but beat ND in South Bend no matter how beat up they are everyone will notice. Lose and it's back to being an afterthought.

Great article. Thank you for sharing. I think this quote at the end of the article really drove it home for me:
If anything, Johnson's program is just hitting its stride, having established a culture that attracts the guys who want to get better in all ways.

I love the character of the players on this team and the culture Johnson has helped foster. The team is loaded with 5 star Tech Men in my book.

I've said this before, but just appreciate that you're in one of those situations you talk about years later.

Like, being a Georgetown basketball fan in the 80s, where you get to say "man, those John Thompson Georgetown teams were like wrestling barbed wire", or being a Texas Tech football fan in the 90's, where you get to say "remember how wild it was when that came out, and teams had no idea what was going on?".

You're going to look back and conversations will go like:

Guy 1: man, remember those paul Johnson triple option squads? They had that little greased lightning waterbug QB...what was his name? Justin Thomas! God, those teams were a blast to watch. Haha, they'd just cobble defenses together however they could, with little midgety 5'10 215 linebackers that just ran until their lungs fell out, and scouring the globe for defensive linemen, and converted QB's all over the field.

Guy 2: HAHA, that's RIGHT, he'd just recruit 15 QB's every year, and whoever didn't win the QB job, he'd just stick them at corner and running back and safety and linebacker and whatever. GOD, he was a crotchety old cuss.

Guy 1: Yeah, but it was hilarious. That dude would get all *****ly every time somebody would question what he was doing, and get that sour puss, and then make it a point to score 70 the next week. Man, those were fun times.



Enjoy it, realize how fun and hilarious it is that opposing fan bases say the same stuff every week, and then are bewildered after the fact. When I go to opposing boards, I laugh my tail off at it. These are gravy days for college football fans, and particularly GT fans :)

I finally got a chance to read the article. I was impressed with the writer emphasizing our student/athletes. Interesting comments from the peanut-gallery types at the end.

That was one of the best articles I've read about our football program and school. Emphasizing the point of a place to go if you want to get better, both in football and academically.

My biggest fear is that it all goes down the drain with one loss and the doubters and haters all return.

It is fascinating to watch the interest in this team across the CFB world this year. Incredible what an 11-3 season capped off by an Orange Bowl victory over a top tiered SEC team will do for the narrative. We just need to keep winning and keep it going. I haven't had this much fun watching (and following) GT football since the O'leary days.

Yes, you win and you get attention. As Coach would no doubt say, that and $2.25 will get you a medium coffee at Starbucks.

I could care less what the media thinks of Tech and I'm pretty sure the team has the same opinion. One of the things I like most about our staff is that they concentrate so completely on us. It doesn't matter what other people do or think; the only thing that matters is our performance and whether we are getting better each week. That is an almost Buddhist mindset and it works.

If we lose up there - and we very well might - we'll simply go back to the drawing board and try to get better at what we are doing. And we'll win our share as a consequence.

I hear you, but I have two thoughts.

1. As a lifelong Husker fan, Navy fan and now GT fan, I can say that Tom Osborne took exactly that type of criticism before his run of championships. It was wrong then; it's wrong now. However, talent does matter, and if ND can control between the tackles, the offense will struggle. Luckily, I think GT has the best offensive mind in CFB today, and PJ's ability to adjust will overcome the disparity in talent (I say that while believing that GT has very good talent, so it's not a knock on the players).

2. This is a long season and a tough SOS. If there is a bad outcome in South Bend, I don't think it's the end of the world. GT has already shown it can move the ball against anyone and it has several more games this season to demonstrate that. I think across the scope of this season and last, GT will prove to be one of the top 3 to 5 most proficient offenses in CFB.

All of that said, I hope the Jackets kick the hell out of ND tomorrow. This is the most excited that I've been for a game since... well, I guess just last year during the Orange Bowl.

Thanks. Sorry it wasn't better timing. I hope GT fans still continue to hold firm and understand that PJ does give them the best long term opportunities to win. Jackets need to bet better between the centers and guards. They got no movement at the second level.

I was, unfortunately, very impressed by ND's front 7. Doesn't bode well for my midshipmen.
