ATLANTA (AP) -- While enjoying an off week, No. 17 Georgia Tech clinched a spot in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game Thursday night.

The Yellow Jackets (9-2, 6-2) earned a trip to Charlotte as Coastal Division champions when Duke lost to North Carolina 45-20.

Georgia Tech completed its ACC schedule with a 28-6 victory over Clemson last weekend. The Yellow Jackets needed a little help at that point - the 25th-ranked Blue Devils had to lose one of their two remaining games.

Just as an FYI, here are the scores of the previous 3 ACCC games played by Tech under Paul Johnson:

Georgia Tech first played for the ACC title in 2006, losing to Wake Forest 9-6.

The Yellow Jackets won the championship in 2009, beating Clemson 39-34, but the title was later vacated because of NCAA rules violations.

Two years ago, Florida State defeated the Yellow Jackets 21-15 for the conference championship.

In other words, put all of the scores together, and there has been a TOTAL OF FOUR POINTS DIFFERENCE in THREE games so far...

That 9-6 game .... OMG. The loss to FSU two years ago didn't hurt like that Wake game still stings.

And beating Clemson twice in a season helped get "Clemsoning" into the dictionary. http://www.macmillandictionary.com/us/open-dictionary/entries/Clemsoning.htm

This year's game ...... we are playing with house money!!!! Nothing to lose, every thing to gain. First with UGAg (the tougher game IMHO) and then FSU.
