It’s gonna be a close one. Mobile QB’s give our D fits. Santucci’s time at Dook will be a wash, IMO. He may know their tendencies and weak spots, but they will know his also.
We HAVE GOT TO MAKE OUR FIELD GOALS. Tech 23(3fg), Duke 21.
Maalik Murphy is a big guy but he’s not very mobile. His longest run this year is 2 yards and he has -60 career rushing yards

Duke is a team that you figure should be an automatic W but that's not been the case over the last decade. I am leery of these guys but have to pick us in a close one. GT - 27 Dook - 20.

As it has been a fairly even series for a Decade or so there is no reason to believe it should be an automatic win. Tough game I think we win but by no means an automatic win. VMI was that game.

I am assuming that you are a fairly young person. Sadly, our program regressed to the point where it HAS been 50-50. But that says more about us than them although they did improve a bit under Cutcliffe. But us older guys have the mindset to where GT should beat Duke. Of course, the really older generation might think more like you younger fans as there was a time when Duke was a southern FB power.

You shouldn’t make assumptions because you couldn’t be more wrong on that one. Class of 1973.

You are living in the distant past. Duke was GT’s peer for the past decade which is extremely sad and disturbing. Cutcliff came in the year after CPJ so that’s 15 years ago. Elko’s teams were every bit as good as GT’s his 2 years there.

Until GT shows we are better than Duke we are living in the 21st Century not the 20th Century when Duke sucked, as I hope they do again, sans the Spurrier years.

The “should beat” is tired old thinking. As bad as GT has been for near a decade there are no ACC teams currently we “should be” better than.

Until we start beating opponents year in and year out that notion is fantasy thinking and wishing for days that have not existed for a long time.

I went looking for a video of this play. All the discussion I read (can't find video) indicated that it was actually NC punting. Duke blocked it and knocked the ball around while trying to recover...NC recovers, kept possession and went on to kick a field goal to make it 20 to 0.
Yep. You were right and I was wrong. Crazy game. I had forgotten that a punt blocked by the receiving team that goes back across the LOS is a free ball and can be recovered by the receiving team for a first down. UNC managed to recover the punt and drive for a field goal. From that point on it was all Duke. UNC is just a bad team right now even with Coach Collins there to help them...OK, I am being facetious.

I stand corrected. You are right. UNC was punting the ball went back across the LOS and was recovered by UNC who proceeded as you posted to march down the field to get another field goal that was to be their last score of the game. After that, UNC did not move the ball on the ground and could not tackle Duke's running backs. Seems like the announcers said it was the biggest comeback in modern Duke football. 20 point comeback is impressive. Manny has his team playing good football...for Duke.
