…I have good news.

Many of you know that my wife is a Nebraska Cornhusker. And for the past nearly 15 years we’ve been together, Tech an Nebraska have run roughly parallel paths. It started with winning seasons under CPJ/Pelini, to the debacles of Scott Frost/TFG, to now, with both teams having solid coaches with the right mindset, each having his team headed in the right direction.

More often than not over the past few years, I’ve noticed I can fairly often predict what the other team will do by what the other team who plays first does that week. If Tech plays first and loses, Nebraska is generally in for a bad day. And vice versa.

So after watching last night’s game, based on the aforementioned (undoubtedly scientific) process, I’m now confident stating…WE’RE GONNA WIN.

See y’all in Boulder in about 12 hours! Go Jackets!!
Does it have to be a tenuous as the Husker win? I was nervous for them and I didn’t have a dog in the fight!

Here’s a question for everyone. Can you imagine any scenario in which Tech loses and you still feel good about the season the next day?

I’m realizing how much I want this game. There would be no dishonor in losing but the reset on expectations for this year is going to take awhile to get used to if we lose.

It’s been a long time since I’ve cared this much about a Tech game.
Just go 8-0 against the ACC - nothing else matters. We could lose tonight to Colorado, Gardner-Webb, Temple, and UGA and still bring home hardware and make the playoff.

If we lose tonight, I hope it is in a strong effort that has me expecting to be 1-0 a couple Saturdays from now.

It depends on your expectations…

A 7-5 Chanesque season is still very much in play. Higher aspirations not so much.

I have absolutely no idea how this game turns out. Like many teams Colorado is essentiaaly a brand new team with tons of transfers.
We, on the other hand have a pretty good idea of our capabilities. Hopring for a W. Nervous as H*** Go Jackets
Leader decesions:
They are all new. They know we are good at our sideways game so they must prepare so they don't look bad.
Do we run vanilla offense thats a "step better"?
Do we run significantly more vertical passing before needed?
Or Do we take shots getting ready for Clemson and then for running the acc table.

Disagree. We will learn something if we struggle in this game or lose the game. If we win 38-17 we won't know much, because it could mean CO is bad, but I don't think CO will a 3-9 team this year. They weren't as good as their record last year, but they have some talent still left on this team, and will probably go 6-6 or so this year. If you look at the team composite rankings for this year that 24/7 just released CO is 30th and GT is 39th.
If we win 38-17 it will augur very well for the future. Colorado is a good football team with plenty of talent. A win of any kind in Boulder is a solid win.

I don’t think there is any mystery to Key’s desire to run the ball and control the game. But I also don’t think he is suicidal on that wish if it isn’t working. I think we have enough healthy pieces this year to take what the defense is giving and do so in an intelligent way.

Last year it seemed like we had instability at different times in the QB room, the RB room, and the TE room. Assuming we have adequately replaced Singleton, I think we have all the tools to exploit any defense.

I like that Rutherford said “We keep it simple on offense.” Translation, the offense doesn’t have to think with any given play but, for the defense trying to stop us, it is anything but simple.

Hummm - Colorado wins on a last second touchdown - But upon further review the win is reversed and given back to GT the next day due to them scoring on 5th Down...

I could see this game going a lot of different ways. I really have no idea what either of these teams are. 'On paper', Colorado should have the edge with size and talent. But I'm not a believer in building from the portal. So, I'm skeptical of Deion's approach. But on the other hand, we're counting on a lot of transfers too. But we have veteran leadership at every position to influence the transfers on Coach Key's identity and culture. Whereas, Colorado is trying to bring in players at key leadership positions - eg QB and OL. Plus, Deion was out with his health issues all offseason. Which leads me to think that maybe Colorado will underperform.

Like most games, I think it's going to be won in the trenches. I think our OL is going to be really good. But maybe our centers struggle in a loud environment in the first game and it hurts us. I have zero idea what our DL will be. If you told me you saw the future and our transfers play great and it's the best DL we've had in 20 years, I'd believe you. Coach Key says we're 4 deep at DT and end with quality players. Or we struggle to play as a unit and the D is not very good this year. I'd believe that.

I want to believe this team is going to make the jump. But I won't jinx it. I'll say Colorado wins a close ugly game with a lot of '1st game' mistakes from both sides and some help from the Big 12 Refs.

Prove me wrong, Jackets!!

Ok - Here's a question for everyone - You're coach Key, what do you tell the captains to choose if we win the coin flip? Defer to the second half and have our D try to rattle a QB that is coming into a new system? Or - Take the opening Kickoff and let our offense start cooking and set the tempo for the entire game?

Personally, I would defer and see if we can get a quick 3 and out - what say you?

I vote defer. I am not sure anyone has ever uttered "Unfortunately, we will have the ball coming out of the half."

My guess is that it depends on how confident Coach Key is in his defense based on the scrimmages against our experienced offense with a great leader at quarterback. If the defense has been successful against our offense in practice, I would defer in this case. Defense travels well in a hostile environment.

I am going to concentrate on sailing the boat fast and winning tonight's Labor Day Regatta. Maybe I will get back to the dock in time to catch the 4th quarter. Will be thinking "Go Bees" for the entire race.
