Thank you for posting that. I had never even heard of this, so I was very happy to read the article. IMO, this is the first step towards an early signing period.

UNC twitter account saying Elijah Hood signed his scholarship agreement as well. It sounds like it is the same deal as the OP.

It is funny that the recruit 'signs' something that binds the university to him, and not vice versa. This might mean a lot right now, but I think it might devolve back into the 'verbal commitment' deal in a few years.

Carvell sums it all up nicely in this article. There are benefits for the school as well, namely the school no longer has to follow NCAA recruiting rules with a recruit who signs a financial aid agreement.

The NCAA has modified the financial aid agreement policy. If a recruit signs a financial aid agreement with multiple schools, only the first school is allowed to announce/publicize the agreement.
