Now this makes me worried for guys like Tae Harris, Dalen Penson, and Christian Garrett. Guys who are poised to breakout next year. I hope they breakout for GT rather than another school. Also, who in the world do we target now on this? Do we promote Sunseri to full DC?

ETA: This had been rumored for a while. Kinda glad it’s settled and not hanging over our heads anymore.

Poor Ole Miss. Looks like Lane Kiffin wants to take four of their coaches before the Miami game. The controversy is far from settled but talk about distraction for a team!

I think this is on par with the kind of distraction Tech faced at a critical juncture in our schedule with rumors about our coaches. Solid programs can handle losing coaches but not during the season.

Why, he did not recruit them. They were here before he got hired I do believe

Dabo trying to get the band back together again to recapture the magic. He can't wait to sit around weber charcoal grill drinking sodas and reminiscing about the good days when DeShaun Watson was a good Christian kid just wanting to support his single mom...

Thinking out loud and kinda random perhaps I admit, but one thing I've been wondering about lately is buyout clauses for assistant coaches. Now that key assistants and particularly associate head coaches and/or OC's/DC's are getting paid multiple millions in some cases, are buyout clauses instituted in their contracts similar to what we see with head coaches? And it goes both ways just like with head coaches. Meaning, if the head coach leaves voluntarily he or his new employer has to pay the institution he's leaving the buyout amount. (btw, did we EVER receive money from O'Leary's buyout from him or Notre Dame???) Or, the head coach (hello Brian Kelly and many others) gets a huge sum for firing him.

I think of did Tech have a buyout clause with Faulkner, Santucci, or Gideon? If so, are we or did we cash in? If you're a G6 program and the coordinator is making 200 grand, it might not be worth the trouble to attract someone good knowing their career goal is to leave ASAP. But, when you are paying a coordinator $1M+ at a P4, seems prudent to include it in the contract for some level of reimbursement if/when they leave.

I don't know how prevalent this is. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

I don’t interpret it as Roof “fooling” anyone. In lots of sports, and even in some professions, there are “journeymen.” They will never be star players in the system but their virtue is in being dependable and having well known parameters in terms of upside and downside. I used to follow professional baseball a hundred years ago. I always thought it was interesting when a team was approaching a playoff and would add 3-5 players to the roster for “insurance.” These were never game changers but they were “safe” additions that wouldn’t make major mistakes or commit a lot of errors. The thing they had in common, usually, was that they had been around for awhile and faced a lot of situations and a lot of different players.

I think Roof is like that. He’s not going to be the spark that delivers a championship and he’s not going to give you a dominating defense but he’s probably not going to single handedly sink a program either. He’s average but “safe.”
Roof was the DC under Carl Franks (I think but not sure). Franks got fired mid season and Roof was named interim. Well Duke upsets GT and Roof is named HC. I was at that game. The place was empty until it became apparent Duke was winning and students started coming put of the dorms to the game. They ultimately tore down the goal.post and carried it outside the stadium. Almost ran over me as I was leaving. He was not good as HC. That was his biggest win.

I am OK with Goose, but Roof would be a terrible indication that Key could not find a DC willing to take the job for the amount of money we can afford. Please, let this entire rumor die as graceful a death as possible.

Ted Rood was a good DC at Penn St. Ted has to have athletic talent that can fly to the ball and he’s dang good I’ve seen it with my own eyes. CPJ running the triple option hurt GT on gettin good defensive players and imo that’s why Ted struggled the last time he was here at GT. I’d take Ted back at Penn St in a minute and I’d be just as happy if he came back to GT. Bob is a smart man to get Ted back it worked last time. Give Ted good LB’s that can get to the ball and you better watch out.

Who isn't a good DC at Penn State? Penn State always has elite defensive talent!

Teds issue became up tempo quick throwing offenses that killed us with bubble screen and slants because his default was cover 2 read and react

Jim Knowles was garbage this year I mean god awful and Tennessee better get ready to score a lot of points because they’re going to need ‘em 😂 thank JESUS he’s gone. Geoff Collins is a better HC 😂 I’m judging him on 2025 at Penn St. first Coach MC got rid of
