The lines are the concern. Losing starters Franklin and Jordan on OL and Biggers, Harris, Scott, Robinson, and Yondjouen on the DL. Everywhere else looks okay.

We’re 6/8 of the top 2 across the DL. We have guys like Lockett, Boyd, and Cruz behind them who, I believe, can be good… if we can hold everybody.

Doing a quick look on social media...Faulkner is being mentioned for the OC job at Oklahoma. I'd be more worried about that job than Southern Miss.

If you are referring to Duke, I think it's simply the long string of bad coaches resulting in a string of bad results. Duke's football program has made two rather quick recoveries since their "glory days" of old, once when they had Spurrier for a few years, and again when they hired Cutcliffe. Since Cutcliffe they don't seem to have made a bad hire.
That said, I don't see football as a priority for them or their fans.

You are correct sir. I could not care less about Duke FB and its past, present or future. But SoMiss, at one time, was an independent iirc and a very tough out for the big boys.

Respectfully, we aren't a destination job YET. I do believe that is where CBK is taking us and I do hope our other coaches like BF are on the same page. Just me coping with the fact that in this new world we live in, bags of money aren't often turned down. I understand the family situation and want to believe a bag of money wouldn't entice him. Maybe we give him a bag to stop him from looking for another year or 2.

KQ said Lockett may be thinking about the portal on his YouTube show. Hope that is not true. I was surprised he didn't play at all this season. May have been more than an injury.

I've had the change to talk to Haynes' folks a couple of times. He LOVES Brent Key and Georgia Tech. They said he finally found his home. I would be shocked if he left to go somewhere else. Not to say it couldn't happen, but it would really surprise me.

Just FYI:

Buster actually turned down more money to go elsewhere last offseason. It's not just about money. It's about fit, freedom to run his system/call plays without someone looking over his shoulder, support for his staff, and a school's ability to recruit players he wants.

Buster already makes $1 million/season, and I've heard Key has the greenlight to make him one of the top 25 highest paid assistants (think $1.5 million+) if Key thinks that's what's best for his program. Also, the additional 30% increase in football budget is going to make us competitive to keep all of our coaches.

Buster and his family LOVE GT and where his family is living. It's a big reason why he turned down more money to stay at GT. That said, this is a coaching family...they all know if the right opportunity comes, Buster has to take it.

Key and Buster discuss things during the game...Key ultimately has the say if we go for it on 4th down, but it's Buster's ultimate call what plays we run. Both are on the same page that this offense is a run first offense. Key will give feedback, but will NEVER tell Buster what to run. There is no second guessing or micromanaging going on with Key and Buster.

Look at our recruiting. We're about to sign probably THE best OL class in GT history, possibly a top 10 OL class in the nation. Buster has King back next season, and Philo waiting in the wings. Our staff is very high on our RB group, and our WR group should be better next season with the emergence of Cannion, if Singleton returns (he also experienced somewhat of a sophomore slump), and Rutherford/Stockton will be one of the better slot duos in the ACC. GT also has some nice "athlete" recruits committed that can transition well to the offensive side. Buster will have fantastic offensive personnel returning and coming in.

From what I've heard, it would take a monster contract (think the type of contract Riley got from Clemson, and an "assistant head coach" level promotion) for Buster to leave for another OC job, and it would have to be the right situation to leave for a Head Coaching job. Buster has been at UGA and GT now, along with with his previous stops. He knows what he wants, and he knows what to look for in terms of good fit for him and his family. He's not going to move on just because it looks good on his resume.

How do you know Weinke wants to be an OC? He's pretty happy doing what he's doing. Had OC opportunities and has resisted it because he loves working with QBs. Not everyone aspires to be the boss.

It’s not that Weinke wants to be OC, it’s that Buster wants to coach the QBs. That’s what I’ve been told from people inside the program who’d know.

Players are available normally for a 4-5 year college career. If you have balanced classes, that's about how many graduating players you should see.

This was true before the transfer portal. Now, balanced classes don't mean much as transfers blow all of this up. Look at how many DL we lost last year...
