Yep. and look at the history of GT.If you want to win your coaches will be looked at by other schools.
I don’t think he would go not a great location. (I have no inside information people don’t give information to a drunk)
If Key and his staff can move us up to the next level and maintain more consistent play from the team, the money and quality assistants will follow. Good coaches are always in demand. You keep them happy and they stay put.Southern Miss is legitimately one of the worst jobs in all of college football. They went 1-11 this year and 3-9 last year. Since 2011 they’ve had 7 different people as their head coach (including interims, 5 full time). Buster worked there for one year in 2019 before catching on at UGA. Unless he’s got a lot of sentimental value and thinks he can really turn their program around, I highly doubt he goes there. Probably just feeling out the interview process and gaining some leverage for the future.
There will be other suitors though, for both him and Santucci. Hopefully none of there offers are compelling enough to take them away.
Good to know what conditions are going into negotiations..Faulkner can do much better than Southern Miss, likely just to make sure he gets a solid raise. He made more as our OC this year than Southern Miss was paying their HC.
And if you don’t, Weinke walks alsoI think we have one more year with him before a really good HC opportunity comes for him. I don’t think Southern Miss is that.
If he leaves, I’d seriously considering promoting Weinke. Players seem to love him and his position group has been incredibly reliable from the starter to third string. Recruiting and talent plays a factor, but having a QB room as deep as we do is rare.
Oklahoma is not a premiere job in the SEC. They will be a mid tier SEC team most years.Doing a quick look on social media...Faulkner is being mentioned for the OC job at Oklahoma. I'd be more worried about that job than Southern Miss.
I’d love to bring Bohannan in as an offensive analyst.I hear Brian Bohannan is looking for a job
But seriously, if Faulkner gets a better opportunity for a head coaching job I wish him the best! Key has said before that he wants assistants that want to move up and Key wants to develop them so that they are able to take better jobs. If they are moving up in the ranks then that's good for Tech cause it means they were successful. It also will be easier to bring in good talent to replace them since they will have left the team at a high level and prospective replacements will see a path for themselves to develop and get a better opportunity later.
I would be more upset if he takes the OU OC position as it is close to a lateral move albeit likely higher pay.
He was there one year.Has it been mentioned that Buster was the OC at Southern Miss for 5 years?
That is Key's strong point, picking good coaches: Weinke, Faulkner, Geep, SantucciFacts. You don't think I have a couple posters lined up for when they kick you off the site?
But seriously, the only constant in life is change. Good fortune favors the prepared and I'd bet Key has some names in mind just in case.
