Doubt he leaves the state until his son graduates HS. He is a good coach and has elevated this team's offense. He has had some off games but overall he is a keeper. I'm still wondering about some of those OT calls on 2 pt tries.

If you want to win your coaches will be looked at by other schools.
I don’t think he would go not a great location. (I have no inside information people don’t give information to a drunk)
Yep. and look at the history of GT.

Bill Curry leaving for Alabama, Bobby Ross leaving for the NFL, Ralph leaving for Maryland, GOL leaving for the ND job (and the mess that followed)

THANK GOD Key loves GT as much as he does. Yes, Curry loved Tech too but he felt he had taken us as far as he could. Key played in an era where GT was a national force in the late 90's/00's.

I think Buster stays.

Southern Miss is legitimately one of the worst jobs in all of college football. They went 1-11 this year and 3-9 last year. Since 2011 they’ve had 7 different people as their head coach (including interims, 5 full time). Buster worked there for one year in 2019 before catching on at UGA. Unless he’s got a lot of sentimental value and thinks he can really turn their program around, I highly doubt he goes there. Probably just feeling out the interview process and gaining some leverage for the future.

There will be other suitors though, for both him and Santucci. Hopefully none of there offers are compelling enough to take them away.

If Key and his staff can move us up to the next level and maintain more consistent play from the team, the money and quality assistants will follow. Good coaches are always in demand. You keep them happy and they stay put.

I think we have one more year with him before a really good HC opportunity comes for him. I don’t think Southern Miss is that.

If he leaves, I’d seriously considering promoting Weinke. Players seem to love him and his position group has been incredibly reliable from the starter to third string. Recruiting and talent plays a factor, but having a QB room as deep as we do is rare.

Faulkner can do much better than Southern Miss, likely just to make sure he gets a solid raise. He made more as our OC this year than Southern Miss was paying their HC.
Good to know what conditions are going into negotiations..
He will be hired to be a head coach soon.

What grades are his kids in? That is a big factor for him

And if you don’t, Weinke walks also

We now have some money, don't we now go for the playoffs next year? If that is the case then he stays IMO. Really interested to see what we do in the portal this time around.

I hear Brian Bohannan is looking for a job 😁

But seriously, if Faulkner gets a better opportunity for a head coaching job I wish him the best! Key has said before that he wants assistants that want to move up and Key wants to develop them so that they are able to take better jobs. If they are moving up in the ranks then that's good for Tech cause it means they were successful. It also will be easier to bring in good talent to replace them since they will have left the team at a high level and prospective replacements will see a path for themselves to develop and get a better opportunity later.

I would be more upset if he takes the OU OC position as it is close to a lateral move albeit likely higher pay.

Doesn’t hurt to listen, and I’m sure we may up his pay. I would extend him so someone has to give us a couple mil when he gets a good offer next year.

I'd like one more year out of OCBF. Finish the drill with Haynes King and what the staff has been building. I hope we can give him a good raise. Then, I'd hope he gets a great HC offer. But you only get so many chances and if the right job comes along, I hope he gets it. We'll never have an easier time hiring a good OC coming into a really good situation. Almost all of Key's hires have been good. (And he's quickly corrected the few that weren't.)

I’d love to bring Bohannan in as an offensive analyst.

I’m firmly situated on the train with those who say you want your assistants to be desired by other teams. Key has said he wants his guys to grow and succeed and get opportunities. And that’s a big draw of why assistants will want to come to GT.

I would like to see Buster here next season but I am not in fear of him leaving. I believe Brent Key has figured out what he needs from coaches and who are the kinds of guys that fit GT and fit his staff. He won’t hit on every hire. Nobody does. But I expect him to hit on far more than he misses and that when he does miss he will correct it as soon as he can.

Facts. You don't think I have a couple posters lined up for when they kick you off the site? ;)

But seriously, the only constant in life is change. Good fortune favors the prepared and I'd bet Key has some names in mind just in case.
That is Key's strong point, picking good coaches: Weinke, Faulkner, Geep, Santucci

If it’s just money, I’d be delighted to release Buster to consult with UT for one week, quarter mil or so to discuss “here is how you put 500++ yards on uga”.
