This guy has taken some flak, and I suppose not everyone likes him, but I do. IMO one of the best in the business. He called our 1990 Citrus Bowl and 2014 Orange Bowl games among others.
I thought he did a good Orange Bowl which surprised me as I had never liked him. But if I were a betting man, Las Vegas or not, my bet would be a forced retirement because Musberger had become the proverbial Dirty Old Man, but with a mike.He should have retired 25 years ago! He was demoted because of age and performance to doing sh*tty games on the SEC Network.
I'll always remember him being the #1 Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader on TV In the Mid 1970s-Early 1980s."They can't stop it folks!"
I think a lot of his weird comments were due to encroaching senility. Sadly.I did like his announcing, but he seemed to fall of the rails the last few years. He has been making random statements that make no sense. I don't remember the exact quote, but after the early interception he said something like "good things happen to Georgia Tech". It was as if he was going to describe forced turnovers by the defense late in the season, but he never elaborated. I believe every time I heard him over the last few years he was that way, never tying random statements to the game. I actually wondered if he had some medical issues.
I'll always remember him in the 1970s on NFL Today with Phillis George and Jimmy The Greek.I should start this by saying that I've never liked the way Musberger called games. Too much fluff.
That said, I agree that it was probably past time for Musberger to go. His comments during the Sugar Bowl were way off the beam. And I agree that he had been getting a bit weird recently; calling Holly Rowe "really smokin''" on air was bizarre.
Still, in his prime he was pretty good. No Curt Gowdy, but pretty good.

You can make it if you have Mob backing which a lot of them have. I could see him going off into the sunset like Lefty did at the end of Casino. As a (reformed) Redskin fan, how do I dislike this?
Seriously, a sports betting service? Maybe 1 in 100 can make you money over the vigorish. And that 1 changes every year.

I would like Old One Eye(Vitale)to retire also. I'm sick of his Cheerleading for Duke.Too much hype, not enough knowledge. Chief mouthpiece for CBS Sports when CBS stood for 'Cowboys Broadcasting System'.
Frankly, I'm relieved to see Brent's hanging it up. Now if only **** Vitale would follow suit...
The guy does always act like he is half nuts, doesn't he?I would like Old One Eye(Vitale)to retire also. I'm sick of his Cheerleading for Duke.
Sadly he's been the same since he joined ESPN in 1982.The guy does always act like he is half nuts, doesn't he?

You absolutely nailed it dead solid perfect without going further. A classic. It's not an act. ...
