These threads strike me as very silly. Bailey was no better...no, he was worse....than CPJ. GTRX7 just posted facts which help you see that. Ross and O'Leary weren't all that much better in W-L records either. O'Leary was 45-30 (0.600) and Ross was 31-26-1 (0.543). Both coached in very different eras when APR at a place like GT was not nearly the challenge it has become in the 21st century. IIRC, O'Leary was renowned for having guys take 5 plus years to graduate so academics wouldn't interfere with football. Can't do that today, folks. Even then, I remember O'Leary's defense struggling BIG time...especially when Joe Hamilton and Friedgen were around. Bottom line is that some of the GT fans around here seem to have golden memories that are not rooted in reality. Our problems are real and deeper than one coach. They involve academics, curriculum, finances, recruiting and then you get to coaches and athletes. Canning CPJ just because won't change our fortunes and could easily hurt them. I share the frustrations many GT fans have these days, especially with what appears to be a stagnant offense. Changing coaches can indeed sometimes rejuvenate a stagnant program. But, there really isn'y any data which suggest we can simply get back to Top 25 national prominence with one silver bullet like a coaching change. I would prefer we keep this discussions fact based though.
