Yet another expert who doesn't have a clue about Johnson's passing philosophy and "efficiency". If Thomas throws at 51% in 2015 Tech will be in good shape. Again. Wonder what it takes to be a TV talking head? They remind me of all those "experts" analyzing military maneuvers in the Middle East. In the Land of the Blind kind of obtuseness.

Yep cause most of that 51% is big plays. I'll take 4/8 120 yards and 2 TDs in our offense over 27/40 240 yards and 2 TDs any day. Throw in his 80 or so yards on the ground and countless yards he helps other people get and its a no brainier.

while true, would it not be better for him to have a higher completion percentage? A lot of that 49% wasn't simply bombs, some were bad throws.
Well, clearly the answer is yes. But the point about "efficiency" is the yards gained: most of his throws are downfield, 30 or 35 yards, and not the dinks of 10-12 used in spread passing games. I only did it in HS but can tell you I was a lot better dinking it than airing it out. The deeper the throw, the lower the completion rate. But more yards. In short, 51% is up there in superhero range.

Nonsense. In the games that were big and televised to big audiences, JT did struggle a little. 7/18 vs VT; 6/15 vs. Duke; 8/18 vs. UNC; 6/16 vs. UGA. Not all criticisms are baseless or groundless. The thin skinned nerds on this board must be horrible spouses.

Even re: yards gained, the YPAs for those games are as follows: VT 6.0; Duke 4.0; UNC 12 or so; UGA 4.0. We can be more efficient if we complete more passes.

You really need to cut back on the caffeine. Maybe weekends only, then eliminate the circular arguments.

Agree JT struggled a little at times, though I'm curious about your definition of "big games". What if we replace Duke and UNC with Clemson, FSU, and Miss St.? Or at least consider them in conjunction with your list. Not sure if that's a subjective or objective thing to do, or if you simply are reinforcing that JT could have played better in losses. The discussion of an average i.e., completion % requires more than selecting those games that pull down the average in my opinion.

Also for what it's worth one could argue there's irony in labeling others thin-skinned, based on the choice of words. I don't think anyone is taking it personally since I don't sense you're directing it at a specific person, but that's not what we're going for here.

More love from ESPN

Not sure being lumped in with Western Kentucky and FIU is all that great, though Utah is always tough. I do think though that regardless of the level of competition, Tech played very well last night and gave us optimism for the games to come.

Dude, this board has gotten so unrealistic that if JT throws an incompletion, you get 50 fan boys in your grill if you say it. They'll have charts and graphs and numbers to the effect of "well, technically it's not an in completion because the price of tea in China caused a butterfly in the Peloppenese to faint, which created an up draft across the Bosphorus that led to an erratic gust that caused it."

It's Dwag level nonsense.

As to your point, yes I didn't reference all of the games he did well in, because the point was areas we could improve. I know I'm a heretic for suggesting we aren't perfect with no room for improvement so no need to respond to that effect.

I think there may be a strawman or two in this.

Certainly I saw three games (VT, Georgia, FSU) in which a key drive under pressure was executed with a high percentage of passes and completions.

Southern and Miami, too. Anyone remember that third and long pass to Zenon against the Canes?

Look, here's the deal with Thomas. He's not perfect. No one is. But he's a superstar, and he plays for my effing team, and that means I love that dude. If you want to lob criticisms at this team, there are plenty of places to do. Thomas sure as hell isn't one of them.*

*don't come on a fan site and be shocked that fans are being ... wait for it ... fans.

Uconn deserves the nod over western Kentucky. Wku didn't even cover the spread. Uconn was the underdog at home against an FCS school but won straight up ;)
God it must be depressing to be a UConn football fan. I guess you have 2 sports you care about more (men's and women's basketball) that are really good, but still it must suck.

I don't know, I feel that's mostly an exaggeration, including the idea that anyone thinks you're a heretic. Some might, but that comes with the territory of posting any opinion on a message board. I appreciate your viewpoints - perhaps the temperature could cool a bit on occasion and then those posts will be better understood.
