Congrats to Dan Lanning and Brad Nessler calling out the money connection for saying it is only a money proposition. Also, Nessler said the SEC is not stronger, faster and better than any other conference. I heard this during the Penn State Oregon game.,
Nothing would make me happier than Tennessee losing to Ohio State and Texas losing to Clemson in the first round of the playoffs and then UGA losing to whoever they play out of Indiana and ND (would prefer Indiana out of hatred of ND, Rudy was offside)

Alabama and UTA both lost last season in the semis of the CFP but it didn't alter The Narrative at all. Alabama lost to two 6-6 teams and UGA should have lost to 7-5 GA Tech, but beat the crap out of UTA and UT, and it didn't alter The Narrative. It's become sticky.

I think ND is the sleeper in the playoff bracket. My finals pick = ND vs Oregon
You may be right. ND looks tough this year.
Going forward, I think ND will be perennial favorites because of NIL due to their TV exposure and shear number of ND fans around the world. If so, I wonder if the rules will finally get addressed to slow down this madness.

... to be fair it seems nit-picky to call a hobbit offside

Two Sundays ago, I walked into my church here in the low country of SC. I was greeted by a SC fan and an FSU fan who said "you guys won that game (against uga). The refs jobbed you on that missed targeting call on the fumble." I just shrugged and smiled as I've tried to stay away from blaming the refs outside of this message board. Everyone else I've talked to in person has done that for me.

This past Sunday, that same SC fan and I had a lengthy conversation. He said "I just think, and I'm sure you'd agree as a Tech fan, that the SEC should just go ahead any break off from the rest. You can't tell me that watching that ASU-ISU game was anything close to being like watching the SEC play." I told him he was right. The ASU-ISU game was a blowout. But the ACC CG was far more fun to watch because the SEC CG was boring to which he responded "yeah, that wasn't the best representation. But we beat the ACC champs last weekend and we're like they fourth or fifth best SEC team." That's when I asked him if he remembered how he greeted me at the door the previous week and what he said. He then concluded his argument with the ever popular "Yeah, but still."

It's hard for them to fathom that the rest of the CFB world isn't scared to play them and doesn't buy into the hype. Here's hoping for mts315's scenario so we can start to show the media.

That sounds about right. Even my friends who like lower tier SEC teams have this line of thinking too.

They can’t hide behind Alabama anymore. They’re going to put 3-4 of them in and play the best teams from everywhere else they’re going to go .500. It’ll just shake out that way.

There’s a side conversation in another thread, but it’s core to this thread.

Belichick used to compliment Bama, staying that the best practiced every day against the best.

The argument was made that, if you wanted a Heisman, you needed to play in the SEC.

Now that the awards season is here, there’s zero SEC players in the Heisman top 10. Zero

They aren’t over represented in other awards, either

Yet, strangely, the playoff committee has managed to seed teams in a way that gives the SEC the best chance to have a team reach the finals. Not a conspiracy, just the logical outcome when your unconscious bias, which says the SEC is head and shoulders better, tries to fill out the brackets. Saw a YouTube video last night in which a pundit was talking about a uga / Texas final. He clearly overrates Texas and he doesn’t see uga stumbling against either ND or Penn State or anyone else they play. It was nauseating.
