So the Jackets jump all the way to #16 in D1 Baseball after winning the ACC regular season. You can’t make this up.
I, Sir, share your frustration.

But at the same time, when I remove myself from our echo chamber I fully understand D1's take on Tech baseball (and they've had this attitude for a few years now).

After all, has any team underachieved and fell short of expectations as much as Tech has over the past 20 years?

D1 Baseball's biggest problem imo is a willingness let results carry the day. They don't really hide from it. Their initial assessment of a team is based on how talented they (D1 guys) believe the team is at start of the season.

Week by week as results begin to run counter to their assessments... they are too slow to downgrade a team to match those results... invariably that team wins a weekend series and they are vindicated on their initial assessment & things basically reset.

The reverse is true & Ga Tech plays right into D1s weaknesses. They are not going to "believe" (errr... assess) a bunch of mid-major transfers & true freshman are going to be as good as other teams with a solid returning core and/or transfers proven P4 talent. Not to mention Ga Tech's sustained record of mediocre pitching.

I don't have a big issue with their initial take... was is as it should've been, truthfully. But when you are stacking wins & sweeping ACC teams on the road... D1 needs to be able to adjust more appropriately.

I personally don't have a problem with that. If the rankings are just a reflection of the various team's records, well, I don't need the D1 Baseball staff to read me the standings. I can see that with my own two eyes. I also say this a lot, but I do so because we as fans seem to get caught up in this....D1 Baseball's opinion (rankings) are not used by the NCAA committee for any purposes. IOW, their opinion doesn't matter anymore than our opinion.

What’s the issue here? That we made a jump after a series win against a ranked team on the road, essentially the best thing we have on our resumé?
You can’t see the issue? Really?
Not saying we should have been in the top 10, but we easily could have/should have been in the top 20 or so except during the April slumber.
IIWII and now we’re about right.

D1s position made sense. They said at the beginning of the season that we were a dark horse if our pitching improved. Pitching improved and we went into the top 25. We then crapped the bed in high visibility mid week games and two ACC series. So we dropped out. We came back after taking two ACC series at the end of the season and beating other teas we should beat.

There are a lot of good teams out there. We'll see surprises once the NCAAT starts.

I used to follow D1 closely but have let my subscription lapse and don't even bother the read the free stuff much. Like others, I know what I see. I also know we can take 2 out of 3 and get run ruled on the 3rd game. So if that isn't inconsistency, I don't know what is.

Just win Thursday. If we keep winning, this is all moot. I won't check for plane tickets to MSP (Omaha & rental car) until it is done. Hopefully this will be the year, but it's baseball.

100%.

I also was a long time subscriber, but am no longer since they added the additional add-ons. There isn't much to read there for free anymore. Pretty much just their rankings, picks, and projected starters.

I think it’s right now. I also think they were too quick to drop us out and too slow to put us back in, but I think they got it about right in the end.

7 game losing streak will do that ...

I didn't have a problem with them dropping us with the way we looked during that stretch. I do agree that we probably should have been back in last week, but they had us just outside and 20-30 aren't really all that different anyway.

In reality, we are a hard team to know how to rank. We've been up and down and it's been both the offense and the pitching. I think it's clear that if both are on at the same time, we're as much of a threat as almost anybody, but they haven't been both on at the same time much. You can't argue that we had a pretty easy route to the regular season title, but we played who was scheduled. I think that 7 game stretch and really just how bad we looked in Coral Gables gave a lot of people a reason to pause on us. Hell, I've been one of the more optimistic voices on here this season and it gave me pause too.

UGA got swept by UTA, also swept by Vandy and lost to Clem in the midst of a 5-game losing streak. They managed to stay in the top 15.
Meh. IIWII, and we’re where we ought to be now.
