Random thoughts:
  • Great frickin FRIDAY NIGHT win.
  • Hurter back to form.
  • Bartnicki just has the nasty look back in his eyes that he had last week and early in the season. Reincarnated? Bartnicki has to be our closer now. Less drama please!
  • Long game at 3:30. The lighting delay helped run up the time.
  • We only scored 5 runs while leaving 13 on base. Given they got 3 DPs, that is 16 excess runners. We need to bunt more and sac better. {trolling} But we'll get more runs most nights, just the way it works sometimes. We also hit the ball really hard right to people sometimes. Happens.
  • Only 2 HRs. Close on several more, real close (Parada, Grenk, ...)
  • Did a great job ravaging Duke bullpen. Unfortunately, their Friday night starter Stinson had to leave in the B2, probably injury. But Duke used a total of 5 pitchers. Great start to the weekend, hope we get all three games in this weekend.
  • Duke had to throw 151 pitches. Would have been a lot more without 3 DPs. We threw 129 pitches.
  • Duke didn't have the plate discipline we do and helped Hurter with many 1 to 3 pitch ABs.
  • Good defense - have to have that to win close games. Duke made 2 errors. We had 0 scored errors. A few shaky plays which could have been scored either way but some great plays in OF, Parada and Malloy. We turned two DPs, including one in the ninth after a lead off seeing eye single. No video clips to share that I saw.
  • Speed kills. Malloy and Gonzo with SBs.
  • Starting at 7PM tonight is again too late, but if we win who cares?

Looking at the weather forecast in Durham, tomorrow looks like a better option than anytime today. If we get rained out tonight, is there a chance we play 2 tomorrow, or is there some kind of time limit on Sunday?

They’ll definitely play 2 tomorrow if necessary. Since Tech drove and didn’t fly I’m not sure what the travel curfew is, but unless one of the games is a marathon extra inning affair it shouldn’t come into play.

Depends on when they start today. Not raining here yet. I live less than 10 miles from duke. May get it in today. Forecast improving. With 1 o'clock tomorrow it may not rain until later in the afternoon. A front is dropping through tomorrow afternoon.

A lot of good video clips in there. Great defense. Great pitching.

Our first shutout shutout this year. First shutout was no earned runs. Second shutout was no unearned runs on absolutely gorgeous defense. That helps the pitching look better every time. Not shown on the video clips were some Waddell danseur* moves. I just knew that the defense would come around since it usually does. With the defense that played in the Pitt series, we would have lost the series already.

The Duke pitcher Williams also had a career night throwing a 7 inning shutout and pitched at least as well as Archer. Williams with 9 SO, 1 BB, 0 HBP and 4 hits over 7.0 and 99 pitches. His defense screwed him over. Archer was career with 9 SO, 2 BB, 1 HBP and 6 hits over 8.0.

Today, we get the weakest Duke pitcher on paper. May not turn out that way (it's baseball) but have to be hopeful. To recap, D1 staff predicts every week who will win key series. D1 had talked themselves into believing Duke would turn the corner this weekend with 6 of 9 picking us to win. Aaron Fitt!!, David Selfert and Patrick Ebert picked Duke:LOL:. It's baseball.

The only weakness yesterday was the inability to advance RISP with 1 out in the 7th and 8th. We didn't have many baserunners all night and needed to get them around trading outs for bases. That and Fred Flintstone running the basepads (relation @FredJacket ?).

* danseur /danˈsər/ noun 1. a male ballet dancer.
