Does this count as NIL?

Pretty impressive article, but not sure if this will also include NIL. GT sets its players up for the long run, but now the tide is turning where they need to be set up for the short term.

Can you imagine instead of just paying Under Armour for their gear in their startup stage, GT said: "Yes, we'll buy your gear, but we'll also give you more money as an equity investor..."

GT athletics could be sitting pretty today. This is the kind of innovative thinking and use of resources we've been lacking for a long time. Credit to TStan on pushing for this. We talk a lot about applying Money Ball methodologies to our program, but this is next level generational thinking. Call it Nerd Ball...invest today for long term exponential gain. This is where schools like Stanford and GT can get the upper hand on factory schools.

Will be interesting to see how this develops for GT over the next decade.

The really nice thing that is allready in place is ATDC with all of its Startup Classes. Greatly increasing the odds of success over a typical startup. Couple this fund with ATDC and it is a true Win/Win

Note: this is also a creative way to engage and raise money from donors
Georgia Tech athletics plans to expand its investments in CREATE-X startups geared towards sports. To that end, it has launched the GTAA Ventures Investment Fund to give donors the opportunity to support the athletics department’s investments in startups founded by Georgia Tech students. In addition to empowering Georgia Tech students to launch successful startups and supporting the GTAA’s investments in GT-based, sports-focused products and companies, donor benefits include Alexander-Tharpe Fund points and the opportunity to participate in startup selections, demo days, mentoring and more.
