Just because Deion is known as a good recruiter and Collins was known as a good recruiter does not make them similar.

Deion and Collins might be 2 of the most opposite coaches and people. Deion is not cheesy like Collins and actually demands discipline and hard work from his players. We would not have money down and Waffle House and all the other fake crap Collins tries to push.

I think you are underselling what Deion could be to a program. His name is getting brought up for nearly every coaching search now. Even Auburn who also hasn't fired their coach. Im no Paul Finebaum fan but here was his take on it:

Deion adds another dimension that no other coach is capable of. A dimension that is certainly worth taking a risk on. If we don't, someone else will.
I would be on this 100% if we pick Deion and he agrees to come here. That said, this is not a slam dunk. The biggest impact might be the attitude of the players could get a jolt of positive energy.

It's a lot easier to go for broke when you're already broke? That's what degenerate gamblers say at the blackjack table after they've gone through the $1000 they originally brought with them and end up hocking the title to the car that brought them to the casino. GT athletics is a business with a LOT to lose, it's not an individual at the blackjack table with nothing to lose. If anyone that's ever owned a business or managed a division of company knows, you don't double down on an unproven idea to get yourself out of hole...that's how businesses go under, and managers get fired.

"Flashy hires" is what got us into this mess (see former OL Will Jackson's quote in the Athletic “I remember the opening press conference and hearing the two words that got him the job were brand and culture,” Jackson said. “That struck me as odd at the time because Georgia Tech football is not an advertising agency on Madison Avenue. It’s a football team on North Avenue.https://theathletic.com/3612998/2022/09/20/geoff-collins-georgia-tech/ ). CGC was said "flashy hire" with his slogans and slick media campaigns that garnered GT temporary national attention, how is that paying off now? So you want to double down on another "flashy hire" and roll the dice? At least CGC had some success at an FBS level school before he got to GT.

You have ZERO evidence Deion would be recruiting force at GT, or GT would sell out home games. That's just pure conjecture and wishful thinking...much like when a broke person is down to his last $10 at the blackjack table hoping the next card gets him to 21. Would we get an initial bump in recruiting and attendance? Probably...but none of that is sustainable if you don't win. We've already seen that with CGC...a short recruiting bump, and short attendance bump. Where are we now without the winning? Worse off than when Paul Johnson stepped down.

Even if Deion improved recruiting, he's not going to improve GT recruiting to the level of a top 10-15 school needed to overcome Deion's coaching gap at this level. Recruiting at the P5 level is serious business, and recruiting against those schools isn't like recruiting at Jackson State. Sure he can get a few splashy recruits down there with NIL money, and he can get P5 castoffs to transfer there...but as we've seen with CGC, 4 and 5 star P5 transfers at this level aren't necessarily homeruns on the field, and getting elite level recruits to GT even with NIL money isn't a certainty. Before the season started, GT had the 5th most talented roster in the ACC according to 247. How has that worked out for us? At this level, coaching ability matters..."flash" does not, and trying to out talent good coaches does not. Deion has proven he can win by out talenting pretty much every school at that level, but that's not a recipe for success at the P5 level, and definitely not at GT.

There are PLENTY of non P5 coaches at the lower levels with an established track record GT could go after that GT could easily afford. I actually listed several of them in another thread. If GT doesn't hire a good coach with a winning track record, it's because they're not looking hard enough...and that's what got us into this predicament in the first place.

As I said, I don't hate the idea of Deion at GT, but there are much better options out there for us. If social media didn't exist, would anyone even know about Deion coaching at Jackson State? It seems like some of you are on this Deion train because it sound exciting and cool from social media. The reality is, social media is a red herring and a lazy way to find a coach.

Listen...if Deion does come here, I will 100% back him because he's GT's coach. I'll be more than happy to eat crow (with a lot of Cholula hot sauce and ketchup) if he wins enough to get us back to bowls and pulls in top 20 recruiting class. I'll be the first in line to say I was wrong. However, there are far better candidates for GT at this point and in our situation.
I’m not disagreeing with the premise of what you’re saying in your post. But, I would not call Geoff Collins a “flashy hire.” He didn’t have the name recognition, the pedigree, the pizzazz necessary to be a “flashy hire.”

From what I know, Geoff was hired primarily because he was the diametrically opposite to everything Paul Johnson was and those that wielded significant influence wanted a complete break from the approach and philosophy of the previous regime.

A flashy hire would have been a big name with little to no experience, brought in solely for name recognition or hype. I don’t thing Geoff Collins had either.

I'm pretty sure Deion never spent time as an assistant or worked with/under a head coach to gain some of those coaching chops other established coaches have on their CV. That may be why people may take Deion less seriously as a "real" coach and more of a "flashy" hire. That being said, I do remember that Deion was a highly focused player and seems to be similar as a coach. His personality is absolutely PRIME TIME, but I remember that all of his teammates lauded his work ethic. If he separates "prime time" from "practice time," then I could see him being a very successful coach at any level. He had the respect of his coaches and teammates, which goes a long way for me.

listening to deion on podcasts and shows as he got older i know several times he mentioned prime was just a character. the real deion was a humble guy that wanted to play baseball and fish.

i also know that in one game he was coaching his son his son was high stepping into the end zone. deion tore him a new one on the sideline.

coaching chops can be questioned, but personality, attention to detail, clout, all the big things that go into coaching are COMPLETELY on the opposite end of the spectrum from collins. get him some coordinators that he can work with and he can right the ship

As I have said this would have to go the Dabo route.

How many seasons did we spend calling Dabo a clown? He was consistently out coached his first few seasons.

So how do we know that Deion‘s success at Jackson State is not just out-talenting the crap out of everyone they play because of his excellent recruiting? Thats what worries me.

All valid concerns from a respected poster, and I share them. I'm willing to roll the dice, but then again, it's not my money. Have to echo what Northeast Stinger had to say about how the two coaches differ. They may be alike in some superficial ways, but I see Collins as all hat and no cowboy while Sanders strikes me as the real deal.

Forgive me if this has been posted before, but I just came across it and it’s a good read. It makes Sanders sound like the right guy, but it also suggests — to me, anyway — that he’d have a hard time putting up with the GT establishment.

Maybe we do need to replace our AD with Anthony Morrow (younger, former pro) who will be able to relate to and lure Deion. Per the article "He’s demanding, and his attention to detail — the same trait that made him a Hall of Fame cornerback — means he misses little. Whenever an idea pops into his head, he calls Robinson.

“Having a brother who’s open and understanding and smart himself. That’s what makes it go,” Sanders said. “If it wasn’t like this, it wouldn’t go and I’d be gone. I wouldn’t even deal with it.

“It has to be the right situation. I couldn’t just work with anybody.”

I think ADTS has done an admirable job overall, but unfortunately he tied his fate with Geoff's. I think that's the nature of the beast: AD's are ultimately judged by their football program.

Just saw a video where Deion removed all the back plates from his DB's because it was messing with their hip turning. His logic " you shouldn't be running away where you can even be hit in the back as a DB."

I don't think Stansbury tied his fate to Geoff. People keep saying that like it's gospel. I think people are putting way too much weight into the "he's my man" comment. Bosses routinely give a troubled employee the dreaded vote of confidence before they fire them.

Seems the most awkward part of being an AD with a bad coach is having no choice but to support him up until he's given the axe. What else are you supposed to do? You can't pull the rug out from under him while he's still here. You can't say, "Well he may be the guy, or he may not." TStan may go with Geoff, or he may not.

I agree with you bc I am basing it off the comment and I could be wrong for sure. It just seems like a situation where this is the scenario where the AD goes down with the coach because I feel there was the opportunity to make a change last season but he didn't and maybe things could turn around this season and it all works out for years to come. However, if a change is made whether it's tomorrow or after the buy out drops by $3mm, is Stansbury the AD that Deion would work with?

A prominent donor said this publicly after last year:
“I think the fact that Todd has linked his career at Georgia Tech to Geoff’s success – and I think that’s really important to know that he did that – is a positive because certainly it indicates that the administration is all in with this working and willing to accept the consequences if it doesn’t,”
If you read some of Quinlan's articles as well, including one right after the Ole Miss game, there are many close to the program who seem to have the impression that these two are tied together. Obviously things change but it's not just based on the my man comment.

the people so convinced he did make these claims acting like they know all of the details and what was going on behind the scenes.

i am a huge soccer fan and if i had a dollar for every european coach that got the “The board here at ______ Football club is giving ______ our full backing. We believe he is the man to take us forward” only to fire him 2 games later, i would be able to pay collins buy out.

if stansbury is fired it is what it is, but i just don’t see it like we absolutely HAVE to fire him based on that letter
