Since we don’t have a game this week, I’ll use this thread to post grades for the season so far.

For the GT player grades below, I used a minimum snap threshold of 20%. Meaning, I only listed players who played at least 20% of their respective units’ snaps so far this season:

Top 5 and bottom 5 graded players on defense through Week 6 (grade in parenthesis):

1.) LaMiles Brooks (82.0)
2.) Zamari Walton (72.5)
3.) D’Quon Douse (72.3)
4.) Keion White (72.2)
5.) Clayton Powell-Lee (71.9)

16.) T.K. Chimedza (55.7)
17.) Akelo Stone (55.1)
18.) K.J. Wallace (52.9)
19.) Makius Scott (51.7)
20.) Zeek Biggers (50.3)

Top 5 and bottom 5 graded players on offense through Week 6 (grade in parenthesis):

1.) Hassan Hall (72.9)
2.) Nate McCollum (71.8)
3.) Dontae Smith (70.8)
4.) Malik Rutherford (66.6)
5.) Jeff Sims (64.8)

15.) Jordan Williams (50.4)
16.) Paula Vaipulu (49.8)
17.) William Lay III (45.6)
18.) Peje’ Harris (39.4)
19.) Luke Benson (38.7)

Thanks for these write ups.

Dontae at three overall and hardly any recent playing time is head scratching.

Hopefully Sims can have a few more games like UCF and Duke so he can climb those rankings.

This is great info, and largely confirms what we knew coming in--our talent is mostly at the skill position and not in the trenches. We really need some big guys to step up their play if we want to continue to improve.

For the OL, I wonder if some of it is the relative talent of the interior linemen we have faced so far. Clemson Pitt and Duke all had some really, really good DTs.

Are the skill position PFF grades on average higher than the "non-skill" ones.? For examples do QBs average 80 and OL average 60?

I wonder if PFF has an average by position group? Would be interesting to see those performing well above vs well below the average.

It’s the same—you can find QBs with a low 90 score and a DT with a low 90 score

If I lower the snap threshold % one level, Clayton Powell-Lee's run defense grade (84.4) is #7 out of 194 safeties in Power 5.

E.J. Jenkins is currently graded as the #1 run blocking WR in all of FBS, out of 127 WRs who qualify. It’s not really close, as his grade is 87.9 and the #2 WR in this metric is currently graded at 87.9.
