Not a math expert but what is the actual ranking if CDH is 33rd on this list when you take out the Division II III and JUCO coaches? He’s probably somewhere between 10 and 20. Also, he has years ahead of him, so he projects to be one of the immortals of College Baseball.And has a .654 winning percentage. For coaches with more than 1100 wins, that's 33rd

Helluva recruiter with one of the most fertile recruiting grounds in the country in his backyard. Famous for bunting his best hitters out of big innings early in games and crumbling in the postseason. (Although it seems like he’s finally seen the light on the former).
Think he salvaged his twilight years here with the Ramsey/Borrell hires and Tex ponying up for the facility upgrades. I wasn’t his biggest fan over the last decade but was hesitant to want him gone for fear that we might end up with worse (lose our foothold in Atlanta recruiting). Seems like we’re better positioned now than ever before though. And he deserved credit for at least a portion of that.
Hopefully Ramsey is the heir apparent and dominoes don’t fall for him to end up back at FSU.

I don't know about others, but for me it is more disappointment GT's winning % has declined from early in Hall's tenure here. Data below from the wiki link.
Part of the reason for the decline is probably an increase in parity between teams. I haven't looked at other long term coaches to see if they have the same trend. This year, the talent level is way up across college baseball and you can still put a maximum of 9 on the field.
I also believe that since Hall has done so much for the program, that he should get to choose when to go. One of the things I like best about college baseball is it's continuity and loyalty to coaches at most schools. Football and men's basketball are much more money sports and don't have the same loyalty.
100% agree with @gtrower that I'd love to see Ramsey be our next head coach with DBo doing pitching. Great combo. Ramsey has the hitting going and I fully believe DBo will get the pitching going with his first real class next year and more non-COVID hands on time available for training.

A lot to unpack here. My bottom line is Coach Hall is a great coach and Ga Tech baseball has had tremendous sustained success his entire career at Tech. Many feel the game as passed him by or his talent has been better than the results (over time). I don't know if that is true or not... no way to know. I am pretty risk averse, I guess. And I do not see greener grass as quickly as others do. For the record, I am also not "happy" or "satisfied" with the post-season results; but again... not sure I'm ready to throw the baby out with the bathwater. We had teams ready, prepared, and positioned to advance; but they didn't for many reasons... frustrating for sure; but I'm not laying that all on the coach.
As for the numbers... his career winning % is .654. In a 60 game season, that is around 39-40 wins in a season. So... his great years were 3-4 more wins than that and his bad years were 3-4 fewer. While the trend is indeed down... I'd submit he's still winning at a very good clip for an ACC baseball program that normally plays some quality out of conference competition too.
But OK... the trend is down. The big question is WHY? Is this on Coach Hall? More important...could someone else have done better? I'd like to see/know how GTAA's spending on assistant coaches and facilities upgrades have kept pace with other P5 programs in the Southeast (where we have recruited mostly). If you overlaid that data with the "trend"... that would be telling and speak to the 'why' on parity, you pondered. TStan seemed to be the "change agent" in this regard. I am not close enough to the program to know... but I've always assumed the hire of DBo was a significant increase in 'investment' to keep up with other programs. That leads to another question specific to CDH... has he be pounding the table for 15 year with each new GTAA admin to get that kind of support OR has he been asleep at the wheel? I have no idea.... but that matters to me in this discussion.
Now some anecdotal crap... I remember a few years ago when Clemson hired Monte Lee and sent Jack Leggett on his way. Quite a few GT faithful were quick to say we needed to do the same with Hall. Coach Lee had some early success (one really strong season); but now Clemson is a .500 ACC club scratching to make post-season every year.
I'd like Ramsey to stick around as head coach too. My fear is Ga Tech (TStan) will be reluctant to hire a guy (Ramsey) with no head coaching on his resume. The Ga Tech job will be highly regarded by some mid-major and lessor P5 coaches who are having success... looking for that next career upgrade. Will be interesting to see how Ga Tech handles that. As for DBo....great hire. However, I'm ready to stop giving him a pass too. This "when he has his guys" stuff should be dampened a little IMO. He's been with the program long enough. His job is to coach up our pitchers and have them ready to compete. I am pretty sure he would say they are "his guys" too.

I do think he'd want to leave after Collin does, but there is incentive, and he does deserve to leave on his own, but with the talent coming in next year we're going to have a really GREAT chance to compete better and make it to post season and to Omaha before the masses start drafting.
You can already see the effects of the hires and updates to facilities on current class and future recruitment.
Ramsey, DBO and that Lab are national beacons for the program and you can and will see the effects on the national level.
I do think Ramsey should be given the reigns when it is time, the dude is absolutely awesome and tremendous for the program.
Playing for Martin, Going Pro, Asst Coach for Martin, and Tutelage under Hall should be all be considered, count, and ease woes or concerns. He's got the chops.
He's current on the new technology and data and is a tremendous human.
Would be a great investment in the program and the future.

Yeah, next year we should really be thinking top 8 seed and a potential Omaha team. We're just simply too young this year, but have the talent to make a run.

Wanted the get some opinions on Coach Hall possibly announcing his retirement some time during this coming season?
Not trying to push him out, although as I started reviewing the schedule(o.k., I’ll admit to trying to forecast wins in advance), I kept thinking about those last few series and his connection to those programs. That’s where he got his start, prior to us.

I for one am in no hurry to see CDH move on. I think there was a time a few years back when I might have felt differently but in recent years we have seen him significantly upgrade his assistants, lead the charge for upgraded facilities, etc. I don't think many will complain about the success of our recruiting but I'm sure some will attribute it more to Borrell and Ramsey. Sure anyone can recall game day specifics where we wish he would have done something different (as message board posters we all have the advantage of arm chair quarterbacking after we have seen the results) but name any other coach who isn't second guessed. I think the true measure of a coach outside of wins and losses which obviously mean more than most, is the loyalty of his current and past players. I don't think anyone can argue that CDH is one of the most respected coaches in all of college baseball. While we don't necessarily owe it to him to exit on his own terms, I personally trust that he will know when it is time to pass the torch.

I've got no concerns. Either Hall leaves and we're fine with Ramsey. Or he stays and we're fine as long as Ramsey stays.
I think the zero for last 10 advancements in the NCAA is a concern. But after watching our football debacle, I'm less anxious to change than I was. I can live with being top 40 (out of 300) on average with a few great years every so often.

Coach Hall inherited Jim Morris's program and built on it. Continued success is not easy with any program, but that's what we've been fortunate enough to have with GT baseball. Just look at UNC's basketball program after Dean Smith retired, or FSU football after Bowden. There are no guarantees that our next coach will ever come close to the success that Danny Hall has. I would love to see what Ramsey could do with our program as head coach if that were to transpire, but Coach Hall is all I've known since I've been a Tech fan. At some point, he's going to retire. I just hope our next coach is up to the task of keeping this program at the level that Jim Morris and Danny Hall have built it to be.
