Commissioner Jim Phillips on CFP

That would be nice from a competition standpoint but the rules, as they stand, permit the committee to make politically-driven selections that earn the TV networks the most money (i.e. taking Alabama over SMU as you pointed out).

I'm going to continue to watch college football like everyone else complaining about this, but it is undeniably frustrating that political decisions are determining the results of the team I root for and not their in-game performances.
The part that is better this season is we are arguing over Team #12 vice team 2 in the BCS or team #4 in the past version of the CFP.

And yes Brand Name matters. A SMU vs Boise State clearly won’t generate the interest of Penn State vs Alabama. ESPN will clearly go for the big name teams.

In theory it seems better to argue about team 12 than team 2.

In practice it’s made it harder for ACC teams.

Had SMU or Miami been undefeated they’d likely be sitting at 2 in the olden days. One more game to win.

Now an ACC team has to have zero or one losses to have an at large shot while SEC teams get forgiven for 2 or 3. They can rest players more in cases of marginal injury status. They can hold things back for the postseason.

They know anything can happen in a playoff. So they want to own 2/3s of the spots.
Miami was #4 until they lost to Syracuse. Win that game and they are #3 this week. They had their chance for a Bye and choked!

Then why not just stage a pre-season national championship playoff between the biggest draws, since the season doesn’t matter.

I just wanted to get that out there. You need not reply. 🤪

If I recall they were number four based off of The anticipation that they would win the ACC tournament and get the first round bye, not because they were thought to be the fourth best team in the nation. But, I might be wrong about that. Won't be the first time in my life that I'm wrong about something, just ask my wife. 😉

They were #4 based on how the Committee viewed Miami last week. Not a projection at all. Then Miami wet their bed up in New Your. Up 21-0 tow minutes into the second Quarter and lose 42-38. Chose to kick a 27 yard FG DOWN 7 on a 4th and 7 with 3:42 left in the game. Miami never got the ball back. Stupid!

Bad play and worse coaching. No one to blame but themselves.

It’s bad for the ACC but screw Miami!

Correct. But it looks like they were still up at 6 last week before Cuse beat them.

(If it doesn't hold, just change the drop-down to Week 13)

Jim Phillips just had his chance to advocate for the ACC on national TV and completely fumbled. SMU is undefeated since Jordan Travis’ injury? And Travis played for Miami last season but SMU now? Phillips seems like a good guy, but the incompetency is palpable. His delivery is nothing short of terrible.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of this guy before the viral video clip being mentioned. With this clown in charge, no wonder why the ACC is a joke.
