Crazy to me that the Big 12 winner is cheering hard for UNLV. If they beat Boise, they will jump from a 12 seed to 4 and get a bye.

I’m sure these rankings will be massaged to get the matchups they want. IMO, no 3 loss team should host a game, unless it’s the 8/9.

If Clemson beats SMU, then the real politicking begins. Can SMU stay in while bama moves to 13?

Don’t see any way Miami survives this. No way a P4 loser already in the Top12 falls out (unless it’s SMU). Absolute travesty. 2 loss Miami should be ahead of a 3 loss Alabama.

If Boise loses, then unlv gets their spot as the 5th highest ranked conference champ. They just won’t get a bye. When you add the Big 12, bama is last in.

Someone needs to be obnoxiously pounding the media about the SEC having their cake and eating it too. They want to benefit from Alabama having more “marquee wins” but also forgive Alabama for losing more games. You shouldn’t benefit from a win that another team didn’t have a chance to get when you also have more (and not just-top-tier) losses.

There’s certainly an argument for Miami to be in over Alabama. But the committee has recency bias, and just like last year is gauging how teams will perform in the playoff by how they are doing towards the end of the season. Not just on their overall record. And Miami has dropped two out of their last three.

In my opinion, Miami has been overrated much of the season, having several close calls once they got into the middle of ACC play. Their defense is weak. I was quite impressed with them when they trounced Florida, but that was game one.

Perhaps they are as deserving as some other teams that may make it into the playoffs – there are bound to be some cases like this with a 12-team field. But they aren’t looking like a championship team.

All Miami had to do was not collapse after getting up 21-0 against Syracuse. They blew their opportunity. No sympathy for team 13+ as they all had chances and failed to prove themselves.

I have been thinking about the best path forward for SMU. Based on what happened last year, there is a good chance they are at risk of missing the playoff if they play and lose to Clemson. However, if they opt out of the game, they guarantee themselves a spot. It all depends on if they care about winning the national championship or conference championship more. Of course they could do both, but it is a greater risk.

Miami just got jobbed to put Bama as an at-large. Meanwhile, UGAg, the recipient of SECheat refs “contempt for the rules,” just got put in the coveted 5th slot. Irony of ironies if UGAg should have to play Bama.
