College Football RISK on Reddit

I'm confused. How does this work? How do I join the GT squad?
So it's a game between all the fan bases of college football.

To be a part of it, you have to have a reddit account, which is simple to make. After you do that, go to this link and set your flair (the little symbol that will go next to your username) to Georgia Tech. This automatically puts you in the game and on the GT team. Now you can play!

Now to actually participate, every day, once per day, you go to this link and decide what you want to do. It's basically an offshoot of the game of RISK. The goal is to conquer the USA. You can either attack a territory that neighbors a GT territory, or defend a GT territory from attack. Every night at midnight, a simulation will be done that determines what territories GT takes, and which ones it loses.

That works like this: Imagine for every territory there is drawing out of a hat at midnight. If you choose to defend a GT territory, think of it as 2 GTs in a hat. Every person on a different team that has attacked that same territory is like 1 of their school in that hat. The randomized draw determines whose territory it is the next day. The same works in reverse if you had attacked a neighboring territory. There's also bonuses that make your decision worth more if you are active on College Football's subreddit.

If GT runs out of territories, they are eliminated. The school that conquers the USA wins. Go Jackets!

So I am in. Are we all coordinating defend / attacks or just free for all?

We didn't take any territories last night, but held the one we had. It's funny this game does a really good job of elucidating our challenges with recruiting. To start the game, we were in one of the worst positions possible - we were bordering Auburn, Clemson, Georgia, Tennessee, Middle Tennessee St., Georgia St., Georgia Southern, and UAB. Not sure there are many other schools bordering that many schools, not to mention many of those are big fan bases.

As for a strategy, if we could make it to the state of Florida and start to take it, it creates a small area that other schools could attack. If you've played actual RISK before, it's the strategy of taking Australia in that game. So I think I'm going to attack UGA's western territory tonight to up the chances we can head in that direction.

Here's what the map currently looks like:

Just an idea - since i don't know what redditt is?

Could u attack the areas AROUND BUT NOT IN large metro areas?

Probably should try to save atl even though uga and clemson are sure to attack. I fear a final footprint around bds.

As an end run, perhaps we pick strategic areas w talent.
East texas and nw la have very high per capita nfl presence and no p 5 colleges.

Also I have suggested we recruit areas that have good athletes , ga tech alums, and no top power 5 within 100 miles. T A&M 100 miles, U T 160 miles, Baylor 170 miles Lsu 220 miles. Lots of teams fly in .

Good luck .

I'm also attacking the same territory to improve our chances

Glad to see others getting in on the action! Couple of things:

1) WRT other groups' strategy, UGA was discussing theirs on their Subreddit:

But then set up a Discord server to keep strategy discussions private. We should probably do something similar. Anyone know how to set up a Discord server or a private Reddit group?

2) WRT everyone attacking the same territory, it does improve our changes each time. But defense is also important here.

So if you're playing - what's your current star level? That will help us plan offense/defense to ensure we have enough firepower for each.

FYI - I currently have 2 stars, & defended yesterday. Happy to either attack or defend.

One important thing would be to figure out how to quickly get stars up. Clicking on some links is easy, 2 of them are time based so you cant do anything about it... but one is I'm going to start upvoting all the GT posts I see on the subreddit hahaha

I made an account for this, so 0 stars.

I'm happy to attack or defend, but from a strategy perspective I think we should get at least 2 territories before focusing to heavily on defense.

PS - Pro-tip - You can up your Links Explored star count by clicking on the hyperlink on the game page, then clicking through all the links on the page.

(Won't necessarily help most of you since your rating is based on the median of all 5 attributes, but for some getting to 5 stars might bump you up a level.)

For those of you with 0 stars, go participate in a couple of discussions. If you get a few upvotes ("karma") for your comments, that will level you up as well.

My only concern with that - if we lose our only territory, GT is off the board, and we all become members of Team Chaos.

So we need to balance our approach with attack & holding our ground.

I’m new, zero stars. Since this a simulation and it probably hinges on the numbers of like responses (attack such and such, defend GT), I think we should attack UAB. Maybe this doesn’t matter but I would think Auburn would naturally attack Alabama, along with all of the other schools neighboring Alabama. Maybe we can pick on UAB when they don’t expect it. The Dwags think everyone is their natural enemy so I’m guessing they won’t be able to coordinate an attack against us.

Anyway, my answer will probably prove that I don’t have a clue as to what is going on. [emoji3]

UAB is out so, yeah. Even if you aren't aware of what's going on, at least you're self aware??
Also, even if you just started, you're 1 star.

Not sure why you say these things. On my page, I have the option to attack UAB. To test it out, I selected the “Attack” button next to the UAB flair. After doing this I can see today’s action as attacking UAB. So where do you see that they are out? Also, I didn’t see any stars when I signed up so...

UAB's territory still exists - but UAB isn't there anymore. It's occupied by Bama. So whenever you go against it, Bama will be the ones defending it. (If they choose to defend it).

Additionally, that means Bama can attack us. Which is what I fear will happen - we're now the UAB of the neighborhood, seeing as how we're surrounded by Bama, Tennessee, Auburn, and UGA. I think we have a target on our backs.

Seems like the best bet is for 1-2 people to defend, then everyone else to attack the same place.
