Personally, I can't think of a single example where a perpetually rolling contract for a coach has ever come back to bite the school. Seems like a great idea for the school to lock up a coach that has proven he can win at the highest level.

He got stuck in a rut and couldn't work his way out.

Also, he's a defensive-minded coach in a world that pivoted hard to offense. The Sabans of the world who can make that pivot are unusual.
