The replies to this comment will be interesting...especially since there are MULTIPLE threads on this board where fans voice their views on the expectations of our football program, and their feelings about whether is reasonable for GT to attain a certain status (say top 25 status) given today's football environment.
This isn't about getting ranked in the top 25 once every 4-5 years, but CONSISTENTLY being in that tier (hence CGC's comment that he was here when GT was ranked in the top 25 every year...which was true).
First, not me, dude. I think we can reach the top 25 pretty regularly, just like we have recently, if we put up the cash.
Second, it depends what you mean by "consistently". It has become more and more difficult for any but the top 8 or so programs to get to the top 25 every single year. Schedules are tougher due to the roster limits and the bothersome fact that you have to be in a P5 conference and win in it to get to the top 25. Since everybody in those conferences is hot to get to the top 25 too, it makes the competition that much greater. I'd like to see us get to the top 25 every year, but I doubt we'll be able to pull that off, given how the football bounces and the quality of our opponents. (Which, btw, we could handle by
trying to get easier schedules.) I'd like to see us finish in the top 25 more then 3 years out of the last 11, however. 5 or 6 out of the next 10 and seasons where we are a bounce away otherwise would do just fine. That's what I wanted and nearly got from Paul and it's what I'd like to see from Coach.
