If there was a time to play them, it’s definitely this game. New OC and DC. The talent is there like always and the staff changes were internally so the teaching/terminology should be the same but when it comes to alive game, that’s when you have to wonder how much losing Venables and Elliot will affect them.

Is it to early to talk about how we should matchup in the 2022 game with Clemson game?
You’re getting way out over your skis. Tech’s roster is not even complete yet, w/ transfer portal and 2/2/22 NSD. Then other transfers after spring ball. Then what happens if someone gets injured? The body of work is incomplete with the new coaches.

Clem still has two 5⭐️ D-Linemen - Bresee & Murphy, both of whom are likely 1st round NFL picks. If the OL has problems with them then it won’t bode well for offense. Thankfully ‘22 should be their final year of college fb.

You will likely have better indicators going into Summer after the roster is set. At least better than late January.

We have a new OC as well and a DC with a really bad track record at GT so far. Not sure them going through a coaching change is an advantage for us.

The bumps on this thread keep coming so regardless of what some say, it is not too early lol

Eff Clemson though. It’s about time we beat them again. We’ll see.

You know, programs around the country routinely have this turnover and not a word is said about it. These new guys are really good. Ask Iowa State. (The OC, down to walkons as wide receivers, revamped his game plan to make running backs his receivers and actually got a good game out of the QB. Defense? Well ... On defense the difference will be that Venables was a yeller and a screamer and refused to play a deep bench because he wanted experience for his very complex defense. The new guy will go deep early.

It is not inconceivable that Clemson will be NC contenders again.

It's never too early. Our offense is going to struggle in the game. They are too talented on their DL for our OL to reasonably matchup with. Our defense is going to have to shut them down and force some turnovers to have a chance. Right now, I doubt it goes well. Hopefully it serves as good prep for the Ole Miss game.

Most teams around the country don't have a coaching staff built the way Clemson's is built. With Sweeney being more of a GM-type coach, the OC and DC are more relevant on game-day than at most other schools. Sweeney's followed the old adage "hire the smartest guys you can and get out of their way." He's been very successful. It will be interesting to see how these guys step up and if Dabo has more input into the on-field coaching decisions.

Alot of Clemson fans are not so sure he is currently hiring based on the "hire the smartest guys you can and get out of their way" rather than the "friends and family" way. He immediately promoted from within rather than bringing from outside.

Will be interesting to see how they do. Their offense was anemic last year and there could be a real competition between DJ and #1 rated HS QB Klubnik.

I think that's what went wrong with Hewitt. He had phenomenal assistants and when they moved on to their next opportunity, Hewitt looked at his position as an opportunity to mentor rather than bringing in guys to strengthen what he was weak in. Just my thought.

However, with Dabo, maybe these inside guys are ready for that next step. We shall see...

More truth than fiction, but Swinney had those guys in the wings for two years, so it is not like he was looking inward come hell or high water. He has always been involved in onfield calls, witness the barking between him and Venables. It can be to a fault, because at least once I saw him barge into a defensive huddle and override the DC and position coaches. But, yes, he is a different coach and part of our own resident genius's problem is he tried to steal the "culture" without any understanding of it at all. (Imagine Swinney standing at the locker room door telling the players he loves them. If a man has to say he does, he don't and players know it.)

I would almost bet my pathetic Chevy that DJ will have to walk off a cliff for Klubnik to get much playing time. The latter is good, but Lawrence he is not.
