Caleb Daniel got a double and I notice Ramsey waving at him to stay on the base which was weird because the pitch clock was running. Ramsey normally doesn't stand right next to the 3rd base bag either, but this time he's almost on the 3rd base bag. Went on for about a minute. Finally their 2nd baseman forks over the ball and play resumes. I guess because the pitcher does not have the ball the pitch clock resets, but if they're going to have delays of game this was definitely one.I missed the hidden ball trick somehow. I don't know the way the rule is worded... but if he's pointing at his eyes... there's a part of the pitch clock rule where the pitcher must give batter opportunity to get in box & set. IOW... pitcher can't "quick pitch" the batter if the batter is doing his part to get setup in box in time required.Anyone have any idea why McKee continued to have balls called on him? The ump kept pointing at his eyes.
It was a fun game to watch and offered up a little bit of everything. I agree that the most disappointing aspect was our uncharacteristic play that cost us at least two runs and the fact that the game was right there for the taking and we weren’t able to pull it in.
I don’t consider that using Patel last night backfired. Bringing him in w the score 5-5 and four innings to go was our dream scenario. It was the high leverage situation everyone talks out (as opposed to if he started and would likely need a second arm to close the game). He just wasn’t able to get it done. It was bound to happen sooner or later. My concern (and I think it’s real) is that this is the start of Patel “reverting to the mean”. I don’t think anyone expected what we have gotten from him this far and it’s not reasonable to believe he will continue to have the success he had so far, so the question really becomes what is a realistic expectation. And likely the answer means that some others are going to have to (continue to) step up and in fact become even more reliable.
Winning this series with McKee & Patel not factoring into either win ...would be huge.

As much as I'd like to sweep it, that's extremely difficult. Hopefully we can take the first game and at least get a splitGame is now a DH tonight
