They didn't need him to win the game though. They just needed him to not make a mistake. Their defense, run game, and special teams would have won the game. FSU was that good in every phase last year. Glenn just needed to hit a pass every now and then. Also, Rodemaker would have been healthy for the playoff game.
Possibly valid, but not your statement that I was responding to. Glenn was not as effective as Stockton by any objective measure.

I can agree with that. I probably should have worded my original statement better. I meant that they effectively led their teams to victory. In otherwords, both did what they had to do to win.

OK - I'm waiting to hear from all you negajackets/conspiracy theorists saying no way they allow the ACC to get two teams in.

I was living in Rabun County when Stockton was playing. He’s a phenomenal player and I certainly wouldn’t say anything bad about him, especially if his mother was reading this, but teams with enough notice can scheme against him effectively if they have good athletes. In high school he was reduced to running in some games because his passing was effectively shut down. He still got huge yardage and won games like that but he is going to be facing bigger and faster defenders in college if he is forced to run the ball.

Not getting in two ACC teams was the implied threat from the committee all along to keep us from focusing on and complaining about not having three teams in.

Still say Miami was shafted.

I’m not a conspiracy theorist but found it highly unlikely. The dwags winning small yesterday helped the $EC mildly since it secured the dwags and their gimpy QB. And helped credit Alabama’s big win.

Clempson beating SMU narrowly was the only plausible way the ACC got two teams in, in my opinion. I went to bed at halftime when Clempy was up 17, pretty sure if that margin held, it’d be just Clempy.

Makeup call for leaving FSU out last year in favor of 'Bama. If Alabama hadn't gotten in last year, they would have made it this year IMO.
The commitee was disinclined to give the ACC the shaft two years running due to the bad optics of doing so.

Brock Glenn vs Louisville, full game:
C/ATTYDSAVGTDINTQBR
8/21552.60011.7

My thought after the ACC Championship: "FSU is incapable of winning a playoff game with this guy."

Gunner Stockton vs Texas, 2nd half:
C/ATTYDSAVGTDINTQBR
12/16714.40163.7
Apples and oranges. Brock Glenn was their 3rd string QB. Tate Rodemaker was their 2nd string backup. He finished the W against the patsie they were playing when Travis went down and then beat UF, but suffered a concussion late in the game. Glenn finished that one and played Louisville. He would not have played against their CFP opponent. Now… check Rodemaker’s stats against UF. TR’s QBR for that game was 43.8. Not great but Stockton was only 63, still not burning it up.

By comparison, Haynes King’s QBR last week was 90.8.

I'm aware of the circumstances. My comparison was in response to @THWG's post asserting that Glenn was just as effective as Stockton. Rodemaker was not part of that discussion. THWG later clarified that he meant how they led their respective teams to victory, which is a valid perspective.

The way Clemson has been playing recently, they should trounce Texas. I think UT would be a much different team with Manning at the helm, but I don't think they will make the change.
Clemson is so hard to TRUST. They
I wonder what would’ve happened if Miami and Clemson had both won last week.
Clemson would be out of the CFP most likely! The only other options would be Indiana or the loser of the ACC Championship Game.

No way Jim Phillps' lobbying for the ACC moved the needle any, right?

Maybe Phillips had a quick convo with Swinney at halftime of the championship. Went something like this: "Dabo, looks like y'all are gonna be a lock for the CFP. So I need you to do the right thing for the conference. Make SMU look like they deserve to be here. If you do, I won't forget it." ;)

The payout for each team the conference gets in is $4M (participation) + $3M (expenses) to the conference, and that's if they only make it to the first round. That's a swing of $14M between the ACC and SEC just for selecting SMU over Bama.

Prior to the SMU / Clempson game, did anyone else pick up on the back and forth between the talking heads on Dabo’s ACCCG record?

One guy said 8-1, the other guy corrected him and said he’s never lost and he’s 8-0.

They both were correct.

They never clarified the (-1) discrepancy but was a shout out to the good ole ACC screwing us over and vacating our title in 2009.

Unlike UGA situation, when FSU's QB got hurt, FSU was exhibited when they played the ACC championship game. I had backup QB made some good plays, though.
That was their 3rd string QB in the ACC CG. Their 2nd string qb beat Florida but was on concussion protocol for the ACC CG. Would have been back for the Playoff. FSU looked fine against Florida.

Who would you have left out for Miami to be in? Indiana (11-1), tOSU (10-2), Tennessee (10-2)? The rest of the teams either won or lost their conference championship game. I would say that Ohio State and Tennessee both had better wins and Indiana had a better record. Hard to argue Miami got shafted. Maybe they deserved it over one of those three, but there's merit in them being chosen over Miami.
