I think I just lost about 40 IQ points reading that tweet and replies… so many I had the urge to bark…

Kiffin firing shots at the ACC:

Why does Kiffin care about Ole Miss' ranking relative to Miami? Neither one will be in the playoff. Is he making the same mistake some fans are, where he sees the "12" next to Miami and thinks that means they are in the CFP?

Precisely.
If our coach made similar comments several fonts on our board would be screaming about how he “doesn’t know the rules” and how embarrassing that is.
Kiffen is an attention whore. Sometimes I love the attention he tries to draw (and he can be quite humorous) but always remember that he’s simply an attention whore first and foremost.

Kiffin's panties are in a wad because Ole Miss Boosters threw tons of money at NIL and he didn't make the playoff. He's also pissed because he wanted the UF coaching job, and instead of making sure Billy got fired, he lost to him instead. Keep in mind UF got spanked by ACC member Miami.

He also lost to Kentucky, giving them their only P4 win this season. Keep in mind Kentucky got spanked by ACC member Louisville.

He wants to point to Clemson vs uga, but he doesn't want to point to GT vs uga.

idk Lane, maybe just don't suck so much next time around?

So Boise State’s win puts the Broncos in the CFP with a bye.
Presumably the Broncos are the 4 seed with a SMU win and the 3 seed with a Clemson win.
The unfortunate side effect is that Bama is now a lock. If we’re honest with ourselves, Bama’s inclusion was never really in doubt so there’s really nothing to lament here.
So ten teams are locked in and await seeding based on today’s result.
The 11th and 12th teams (by inclusion, not seed) will be the winner of SMU / Clem and ISU / ASU.

MY GUT;
1. Oregon
2. Uga
3. Boise
4. Clemson (yeah.. get ready)

5/12 - Texas / ASU
6/11- ND /Alabama
7/10- PSU /indiana
8/9- tOSU / Tenn

Watched some ACC chat last night, something that only happens by accident since I never plan on watching. Was actually kind of pleased at how hard they were hitting the “conspiracy theory” about protecting teams like Georgia and Alabama. They weren’t themselves pushing it but explaining why people would believe that and why the whole process is losing credibility.

They laid out in meticulous detail how the selection committee, going back prior to the FSU snub, has developed a “grab bag” of reasons to include or exclude a team but always use the reason that manages to get the most SEC teams in. It was breathtakingly thorough and on target. Kind of wish this talk had started sooner but they felt like if SMU and Miami are left out, while other teams from Indiana and Alabama are included, the controversy will be huge and the shadow hanging over the playoffs will cause a massive reevaluation.

Regardless of whether the ACC is just spitting in the wind or not, I get the feeling they are not going to just let it go this time like they did last time. They now understand that every snub is just another excuse to continue the narrative of a “weak ACC” and to justify future snubs while always elevating the SEC. I think they are serious.

We can be certain that the “controversy” will be huge…. In certain circles. We can only hope it will be big enough to cause a massive reevaluation…
I am sure the committee is rooting for SMU tonight so their dirty work is already done. I’m also sure that a Clemson win will not deter them from “doing what they have to do.”

I like the thought. But I think we all know that they're getting exactly what they want. Enough of the big names do well enough for them to create a reason to include them. If Michigan had showed up for another couple games like they did for OSU, they would be all set. And they would love nothing more than for the ACC and BIG12 to opt out in protest. More room for "the big boys."

You’re probably right.

The narrow hope is that there are still enough independent sports journalists and commentators who aren’t making their salaries off of SEC/B1G networks. That’s the group that immediately started calling foul after the Tech uga game. They haven’t changed their minds and are getting more entrenched in their belief that something is rotten in Denmark.

Are they big enough to make a difference? A long shot I suppose.

The more I think about this, the more I just have to laugh. Somebody please make it make sense.

#2 10-1 OSU loses by 3 (favored by 20.5) to unranked 6-5 UM (-23.5 against the spread) - drop them to 4 spots to #6
#3 10-1 Texas moves up 1 spot to #2 due to the OSU loss by beating #20 8-3 A&M by 10 (+5.5 against the spread)
#4 10-1 Penn St moves up 1 spot to #3 due to the OSU loss by beating unranked 4-7 Maryland by 37 (+10.5 against the spread)
#5 10-1 ND moves up 1 spot to #4 due to the OSU loss by beating unranked 6-5 USC by 14 (+7.5 against the spread)
#6 10-1 Miami loses by 4 (favored by 6.5) to unranked 8-3 Cuse (16.5 against the spread) - drop them 6 spots to #12 outside the CFP
#7 9-2 UGA moves up two spots to #5 due to the OSU loss and Miami loss by beating unranked 7-4 GT by 3 in 8OT (-14.5 against the spread)
#8 9-2 TN moves up one spot to #7 due to Miami loss by beating unranked 6-5 Vandy by 13 (+3.5 against the spread)
#9 10-1 SMU moves up one spot to #8 due to Miami loss by beating unranked 6-5 Cal by 32 (+20.5 against the spread)
#10 10-1 Indiana moves up one spot to #9 due to Miami loss by beating unranked 1-10 Purdue by 66 (+37.5 against the spread)
#11 10-1 Boise St moves up one spot to #10 due to Miami loss by beating unranked 5-6 Oregon St by 16 (-1.5 against the spread)
#12 9-2 Clemson loses by 3 (favored by 2.5) to #15 8-3 SC (-5.5 against the spread) - drop them 5 spots to #17
#13 8-3 Bama moves up two spots to #11 due to Miami and Clemson losses by beating unranked 5-6 Auburn by 14 (+3.5 against the spread)

Wasn't surprising to see the two teams rewarded the most were UGA and Bama. The only two that were moved up 2 spots despite the fact that UGA needed 8 OTs to underperformed by 14.5 points against expectation against an unranked opponent (and ignoring other threads about assistance they may have received in doing so) and Bama performed 3.5 point above expectation against an unranked sub-500 opponent.

Meanwhile, Miami drops completely out because they underperformed by 16.5 in losing to an unranked team with the same record as that same Bama team and is now ranked #22. And Clemson also drops completely out because they underperformed by 5.5 in losing to the #15 team.

Let's play "What if" for a second. What if Haynes King doesn't fumble (yes, I know and I agree about targeting)? Let's make some assumptions and play it out. We run the clock out and beat UGA 27-20. That gives UGA a similar(?) loss to Miami (a loss while underperforming the spread by 24.5 to a team likely now ranked somewhere close to that Cuse #22). Does anyone think they would have dropped those same 6 spots down to #13 and been sitting on the outside looking in tonight? Would they be below TN, SMU, Indiana, Boise St, Clemson, Bama and SC?

Of course as I type this I have to listen to Joe Tess and Palmer opine during the (currently) blowout BIG12 CG about the travesty of Clemson being doubly rewarded if they beat SMU with a spot in the CFP as well as a first round bye despite losing to UGA by 31 earlier this season while UGA may have to go on the road if they lose to Texas tonight.

Since the committee has already said that a team wouldn't fall out of the CFP for losing in the conference championship game in favor or someone that didn't play in a championship game, if Clemson wins, Alabama should be out and SMU remains. Personally, I think SMU boat races Clemson. But, it will definitely call the Committee's bluff and show the lack of integrity if Clemson wins and SMU is left out in favor of Alabama, the world needs to scream.

I am probably confusing what I have seen and read at this point but I thought the same guy who said they won’t penalize a team for losing a conf champ game immediately talked himself into a pretzel and said SMU would “potentially” fall behind Bama with a loss.
For what it’s worth, I think that would be a REALLY damaging indictment of the current format. I also don’t have faith in the committee not to contradict their process used in the previous week and make some really wacky changes.
They also said idle teams won’t move, but all bets are off if teams in front of them lose. One thing I know for sure is that no one knows for sure.

Indiana and/or Texas should also be out in favor of Army. Texas has 0 top 25 wins and has already lost to the mutts twice. Indiana has 0 even good wins and got blasted by the one good team they played, whereas Army just won their conference championship over Tulane, has a better record, and also got blasted by the one good team they played.

Interesting argument.

On the one hand, the committee goes for eye candy which translates to SEC or B1G. On the other hand, there are a lot of Army fans across the country.
